"You're scared. I can see it. You might've been able to fool every single one of these bloody shanks, but you can't fool me. Unlike the others, I can see past your walls."

I woke up bright and early that morning, ransacking Frypan's fridge to find some sort of breakfast and make myself lunch.
Soon, Minho joined me in the kitchen to make himself lunch. He handed me an old leather backpack, which I took graciously. He also handled me a dagger, which I tucked into my belt.
I was ready long before Minho, waiting at the unopened doors of the maze, bouncing on the balls of my feet excitedly. Minho walked over to me, taking a sip of water before shoving it into his backpack.
"Ready, girly?" He asked. I nodded my head with a smile. The doors started to creak open and the gap to get into the maze expanded. I heard the door to the homestead slam shut, causing my attention to be drawn to it. I looked over my shoulder to see Newt, stepping out of the horribly built building. He stared back at me, throwing me a look of concern. I didn't have time to react as Minho patted my shoulder and we both raced into the maze.

"Cut off some ivy. Mark where you've been," Minho panted out as we ran. I nodded, taking out my dagger and dragging it across the wall, slicing off the old, green ivy. "Make a mental note of your turns."
Right. Left. Right. Right. Left. Right.
I never thought running around a maze with death at every corner could make a person feel so alive. I loved every second of it. The wind blowing back my hair, the sweat dripping down my neck, even the ache in my feet. I didn't mind any of the pain because the feeling of running was amazing. The feeling of knowing that at any moment, we could turn a corner and find the way out of the horrible place.
I thought about the feeling of finding the doors out of here. Minho and I would run back to the Glade as fast as possible, shouting the amazing news as we got there. Everyone would clap and cheer as we all quickly packed up our belongings and ran through the maze. Minho and I would lead the pack to the doors with Newt and Alby running behind us. Newt would smile in amazement as we told him the news. As we told him we would leave. Once we got out, our families would be there to greet us. We would have normal lives. We would get our memories back. All of us would stay friends. We'd all stay together as we discovered the wonderful world awaiting for us outside.
After hours of running, Minho and I stopped at a dead end to eat lunch. We sat down on the cold, metal floor as we pulled our backpacks off of our backs and devoured the sandwich and apple we had packed. I was exhausted, but I felt like I could run the entire maze if I had too. I would run as far and as fast as I needed too to fond a way out. I don't care if I feel like I will drop dead, but I'm going to keep running.
"Hey, Minho, I was just wondering-" I cut myself off as I took a bite of my apple.
"Mhm?" He mumbled as he chewed on his own mouthful of apple.
"Why does Newt have a limp?" I asked him. His face became pale as he stopped chewing for a moment and simply stared at me. He continued chewing, slowly, after a minute.
"I don't know," he mumbled. I rolled my eyes.
"I know you're lying. Why can't you just tell me?" I asked him.
"Carina-"
"God, I'm so sick of secrets in the god forsaken place," I sighed. Minho also sighed.
"Carina, you're right. I do know why he has a limp," Minho admitted, leaning his head back on the maze wall behind him.
"Then tell me," I motioned for him to talk. He shook his head.
"I can't."
"Why not?" I tilted my head sideways.
"Because it's not my story to tell," Minho shrugged. "If you really want to find out, grow a pair of balls and ask Newt yourself." I stared at Minho. If he won't even tell me, it must be something bad. Do I really want to know? "But, just be careful when you do. I'm not going to tell you what happened, but it's not a story Newt goes around bragging about."
"Got it," I nodded.
"Now, c'mon. We gotta keep running," Minho stood up as he threw his apple core on the ground. We started off and I stayed a little behind Minho since I had no idea where I was going. "Tired yet?" He yelled at me from over his shoulder. I pushed my feet harder, racing in front of him.
