"You're scared. I can see it. You might've been able to fool every single one of these bloody shanks, but you can't fool me. Unlike the others, I can see past your walls."

Newt was already at the doors when Minho and I walked up. Newt had seemed to come to terms with the fact that I was running.
Newt was slightly upset when he figured it out that Minho had told me to ask him about his limp. I had explained to Newt that Minho only told me to ask him so that he could tell me in his own way, since it wasn't Minho's story to tell. Newt understood that and no longer held it against Minho.
Since last night after Newt told me the story of his limp, it seemed we had gotten even closer in the short amount of time. This only made it harder for him to let me go into the maze. The fact that I was running with one of his best friends seemed to help, though, since he trusted Minho with his life.
Newt stared at me, sadly, but he knew I wouldn't change my mind. I walked up to him, grabbing him in a surprise hug.
"Nothing's going to happen. It's just running," I told him as I pulled out of the hug. Minho came up next to us and slapped Newt on the shoulder.
"Yeah, man. She can take care of herself. You should trust her," Minho told Newt.
"I do trust her," Newt looked to Minho. "It's you I don't trust," Newt joked. Minho let out a hearty chuckle.
"Don't worry man, I'll take care of her," Minho places his hand on my shoulder.
"I think I'll be the one taking care of you," I brushed Minho's hand off of my shoulder.
"Be careful," Newt looked to me.
"I will Newtie! I'll always come back to you!" Minho threw his arms up and around Newt, joking as if he was Newt's girlfriend. I grabbed my stomach as I laughed, watching as Newt made a really weird and uncomfortable face.
"Bloody hell, get off of me," Newt pushed Minho off of him. Minho gasped and placed his hand on his chest.
"You don't love me, Newtie?" Minho asked as he fake brushed away a tear. Newt shook his head with a laugh before looking back at me.
"I will," I have him a reassuring nod. Minho I then turned around and ran into the maze, Newt watching us until we were out of sight.

Through the whole day in the maze, I thought about Newt and why he cared so much if I got hurt. I figured it was just because he's second in command and he has to care about everyone. While we were eating lunch, I spiked up a conversation by asking that question to Minho.
"Minho, why is Newt so protective over me?" I asked him. Minho stopped mid drink to look at me before he finished his sip.
"What do you mean?" He asked for me to clarify.
"I don't know," I mumbled. "It's just, he didn't want me to be a Runner and he even made sure to tell you to keep me safe before we left. I just don't understand why. He never tells Gally what he should or should not do," I spoke before biting into my apple.
"Well Gally is a douchebag," Minho shrugged. I nodded, looking at the stone floor.
"I just wish I knew what was going through his head," I shrugged.
"Well, why don't you asked him?" Minho tilted his head to the side. I squinted my eyes at him before shaking me head, taking another bite of my apple.
"Why can't you?" I tested Minho. Minho shrugged, taking a sip of his water.
"I'm not the one who wants to know the answer."
"You know," I glared at him. "For as wise as you seem to be, you are an asshole." Minho smiled at me.
"Oh there's no time for flattery, Carina. We gotta get back out there or we'll never find a way outta this bloody place," Minho stood up.
"Bloody?" I raised an eyebrow at him as I also stood up. He threw his back with a groan.
"I've been spending too much time with Newt," Minho laughed.
"Not enough bloody time," I mocked him with a smile. He slapped me on the arm before shoving his water back into his backpack.
"C'mon greenie. Stop distracting me so you don't have to run," Minho crosses his arms.
"Hey, I'm not the one who keeps stopping for twenty minute breaks every hour," I laughed before sprinting off down the maze.
"Bloody shank," I heard Minho mumble as he ran behind me.
