"Minho!" I ran up to the keeper of the Runners after he had ran out of the maze.

"What's up, Carina?" He asked, wiping the sweat off of his forehead with his sleeve.

"I want to be a runner," I stared at him, completely serious. Minho burst out laughing, tears brimming his eyes. "What's so funny?" I placed my hands on my hips.

"You can never be a runner," he continued to laugh as he walked towards the men's showers. I followed him.

"Why? I'm fast," I glared at him

"True," he smiled.

"And I'm tough," I walked backwards in front of him.

"Also true," he chuckled.

"So what's the problem?" I stopped him, crossing my arms.

"You'll never be allowed too," he told me. I looked at him, confused. "Look, it's not me you have to convince," he continued to walk to the showers.

"That's why I was hoping you could talk to Alby for me," I smiled sweetly at him. He laughed.

"It's not Alby you have to convince either. Alby doesn't care what you do," Minho started pulling off his fingerless gloves and runner's armor. I stood in front of him as he was about to enter the showers, throwing my hands in the air.

"Who then?" I yelled. Minho looked at me as if I was the dumbest person in the world.

"Starts with an N and ends with a ewt," he chuckled before pushing past me and walking into the showers. Newt? Why would Newt care if I became a runner or not?

I sat down next to Newt, placing my tray of tomato soup and a roll on the table and sliding onto the bench. I smiled at the group as I sat down. I gave a stare to Minho, who was sitting across the table from Newt and I. Not so inconspicuously, I brushed my spoon off of the table.

"Oops," I faked a surprised gasp. Newt bent down to grab the spoon, his head momentarily under the table. At this second, I took the opportunity to talk to Minho. 'Talk to him,' I mouthed to Minho, gesturing to Newt who was still under the table. Minho shook his head, pointing at me.

'You do it,' he mouthed back at me. I was about to mouth a scream at him when Newt's head reappeared from under the table, handing me my spoon.

"Thanks," I smiled at him. Again, a moment later, I brushed my spoon off the table, muttering another 'oops.' As Newt bent down again, I took a piece of my roll and threw it at Minho, glaring at him.

'Do it!' I mouth screamed at Minho. He shook his head, looking amused. Newt reappeared just in time to see me chuck my entire roll at Minho's head. It hit him square in the face, leaving a streak of butter on his nose as it fell off.

"Everything okay?" Newt chuckled as he stared at Minho's buttery nose.

"Yeah, Minho is just a pain in the ass," I mumbled.

"I love you too, dear," Minho said sarcastically before jokingly leaning forward for a kiss. I scoffed as I took Minho's own roll, smushing it in his face. Newt laughed at the sight and so did the entire room of Gladers. "I like butter on my face," Minho stuck his tongue out at me before taking a slurp of soup, leaving the butter and breadcrumbs on his cheeks, forehead, and nose. I smiled, looking down at my soup before realizing what I had to do.

"So, Newt," I batted my eyelashes as I placed my elbow on the table, resting my head on my fist and staring at him. He stared at me, confused as he put a spoonful of soup in his mouth.

"Yeah?" He asked after gulping down the soup. I glanced at Minho who was smirking at me.

"I have a question..." I breathed out.

"Shoot," Newt smiled. I sighed before blurting it out.

"I want to try running. Minho thinks it'll be a good idea-"

"Oh he does?" Newt raised and eyebrow at Minho, turning his head to stare at him.

"Oh...look at the time...I have to uh-" Minho ran from the table, leaving his food behind.

"C'mon, Newt. I can do it. I'm fast and I'm strong," I pleaded. He got up form the table, shaking his head before walking out of the kitchen area. I stood up, following him. "I probably won't even make it! Why can't I at least try?" I yelled at his back. Newt stopped, turning around to face me.

"Fine," He gritted his teeth. "You can run with Minho tomorrow, since it's the last job you have to try," Newt signed. I grinned like an idiot. "But you need to stay with Minho the entire time. And if either of you even think you hear a Griever, you come straight back to the Glade," Newt pointed at me. I nodded, excitedly.

"I promise," I smiled, running up and hugging Newt. My hug surprised him but, eventually, he hugged me back.
