NEVER IN A million years you would've thought that someone was going to confess to you — let alone your own best friend.
You met Nagisa Shiota since elementary school, and ever since then, the two of you were an inseparable duo.
It was another mediocre day in E Class, learning and assassinating your Koro-sensei. The ambushes your classmates did became a natural occurrence, since it happens everyday.
It was P.E., and Karasuma-sensei made the class do close combat training — you got paired up with one of the most agile girls, Hinata Okawa. This was definitely a huge setback for you, considering that you were much more compatible with long ranged assassination.
From afar, it was clear that you were no match for Hinata-san. You can barely predict her moves — and the only thing you can do is dodge or get hit.
You were getting tired from being cornered by her. Due to how out of shape you were, you collapsed. Only then you were finally able to breathe.
Nagisa ran over to you and knelt down to his knees, grabbing you by the shoulders. He shook you frantically, almost like a mom whose child was about to pass out anytime soon.
"(Y/N)-san!" He cried out, slapping your cheek continuously.
You pushed his face away. "Nagi-chan!" You sighed in irritation, rubbing your cheek gently. "That hurts."
Nagisa scratched the back of his neck in embarrassment, his face flaming red. "Gomene,"
Koro-sensei got in between the two of you. In his hand, was a small mistletoe hovering just above you and Nagisa's head. His face turned pink, wearing the same, sly smirk wherever he goes.
You blushed at the thought of you and Nagisa kissing under the mistletoe. "What are you doing here, Koro-sensei?!" You cried out of embarrassment.
"Nurufufu! I smelled a public confession, so I came right away!" He replied, the enthusiasm inside of him evident on his cheerful tone.
Nagisa stiffened at the word 'confession'. He slowly turned away, but was stopped by the mischievous redhead.
"Eh? Now is the perfect chance, Nagisa-kun! Tell her already," he whispered into his ear. The small lad bore a sigh of despair, noticing that a crowd of nosy classmates had blocked his only way of escape.
Nagisa stared at you for a long time, pondering if he really should take the opportunity or not.
You stared back at him in a confused manner, finding it a little unsettling to have him look at you intensely.
"Eto... Nagi-chan?" You called out, trying to see if you could catch his attention. He gave you a small, nervous smile in return, taking a few steps towards you.
Taking a deep breath, he parted his lips open, and said,
"I love you, (Y/N)-san. I-I would really be thankful — er, I mean, happy if we could be together. Can we start seeing each other?" He asked, fumbling over his words.
Everyone cheered at first, returning to their serious faces as they switched looks between you and Nagisa.
Anticipation was building up at a ferocious pace, waiting for the answer everyone was wanting to hear from you.
Your heart was beating rapidly — you didn't know what to do! As cliché as it may seem, you actually share mutual feelings with him.
You could've just confessed years ago, but was held back because you needed to be there for Nagisa-kun. Having to cope with such an abusive mother, you needed to be by his side and comfort him.
But then you had to put your feelings aside. What mattered the most to you was to help your best-friend — show him that there's always someone who will listen to his problems at home.
But the fear of being rejected, thus, making the friendship between you two drift apart, it was bound to do no good on Nagisa's part.
He's done so much better than before — happier than the last few years of him without you by his side. You could remember how you found him in such an awful state; reaching to the point of he seemed like he didn't even took care of himself. That made you realize that you had to be there for him all the time. A confession during an ill-timed period in his life was only going to ruin things.
So here you are now, facing Nagisa, who was extending a shaking hand to you, looking down onto the ground; anxiety crawling up his pants as he waits for your answer that would change everything.
After a few seconds of calming down, you mustered a smile and took his hand gently, causing him to look up in surprise.
Everyone cheered. Tears began to flow from your eyes as your best-friend wrapped his arms around you tightly, nuzzling his face onto the crook of your neck.
"Arigato... arigato, (Y/N)-chan!" He cried, rubbing your back gently with his hands.
"Be ready to post this on YouTube, Nakamura," Karma mumbled over to the devious blonde, who was ready to capture some... action.
You pulled away with a big smile on your face, tears cascading from your eyes. He wiped a tear from your cheek.
"We'll always be there for each other, okay?" He asked with a small grin.
You nodded. "Promise."
