As I sit and wait for Kate to come out I see a figure talking to the receptionist behind the counter. I see from the back that he's tall and blonde.
At first I think it's Luke but then I have second thoughts. I smile and shake my head, as if confirming to myself that it isn't him.
The man's head turns. It is Luke.
Luke glares at me as he walks into room 3A, Kate's room. My stomach twists and I get up. I wasn't going to let him touch Kate.
"Get away from me," Kate's says as I open the door, her voice shaking.
Luke walks toward her and Kate walks back. She's against the wall now.
Her stare meets mine, and it stays there for awhile. Her eyes are wide and move across my face. She looks tense, and her hands are shaking.
"I'm sorry," Luke says.
Her eyes shift to Luke.
"Stay away from her," I say firmly, "she doesn't want you here."
"Let the girl speak for herself... Kate?"
She doesn't speak. Her eyes stay locked on Luke, like he's an animal ready to attack.
Something isn't right. He broke her heart, but he didn't atta-maybe he did attack her. I didn't realize this before, but it makes sense now. He hurt her.
Anger boils inside of me, an anger I can't hold in. It roars. I'm the animal now, and I'm going to attack.
