For once, Ezra decided she was going to let Jughead take charge of the Serpents. Riverdale High used to be his school, he knew the layout and the students better than any of them so it only made sense that he advised them.
Her stomach churned with anxiety, though she was elated to finally be attending a proper school that would really boost her college application, the thoughts of being the new kid made her want to get sick. Especially considering the whole Northside Southside tensions that the Black Hood had been contributing to.
Even though the Black Hood turned out to be a Northside janitor.
"You ready?" Jughead asked, quiet enough that only she picked up on it.
Ezra nodded, swiping her hair off her shoulders and dusting off her shorts even though there wasn't anything there to wipe off.
With the way the group entered the school you'd think they hadn't a care in the world, they looked intimidating, borderline scary. Though their brooding bad kid expressions were swapped with one of confusion when they spotted Veronica Lodge and Archie Andrews stood behind a table.
"Friends!" Veronica's voice came out sickeningly sweet, to Ezra it sounded fake but what could she do "On behalf of the students and faculty here at Riverdale High, welcome to your new school. To ease the transition, I've set up a registration desk where you can get your locker assignments, class schedules and a list of sports and extracurriculars. We encourage each and every one of you to drink deeply from the cup that is fair Riverdale."
"Excuse me while I vomit." Ezra mumbled, earning a snort of amusement from Frankie and an elbow from Toni.
Though, this peace and love approach didn't last long.
"Stand down, Eva Peron." Cheryl's voice called from the top of the staircase, Reggie Mantle and the Vixens following behind.
It was Jugheads turn for a sarcastic remark, mumbling "There's the school spirit I so fondly remember."
"Cheryl, no one invited Fascist Barbie to the party." Veronica quipped, arms crossed as she came face to face with the red head.
"Wrong, Veronica. No one invited Southside scum to our school." Cheryl scoffed, glaring at each of the new arrivals "Listen up, ragamuffins. I will not allow Riverdale Highs above average GPA to suffer because of classrooms that are overcrowded with. . .underachievers. So, please, find some other school to debase with your hardscrabble ways."
"Why don't you come over here and say that to my face?" Toni snapped, stepping forward with Ezra close behind.
"Happily, Queen of the Buskers!"
"Okay, guys. Everyone." Archie spoke up, stepping between the girls before anything could happen "Can we just put our Northside-Southside differences apart and start over?"
Reggie scoffed "You don't speak for the Bulldogs, Andrews, and need I remind you these greaser snakes showed up at your place to kick your ass."
"Happy to finish what we started." Sweet Pea chimed in, only to be grabbed by Jughead and Fangs as he made a go for the Bulldog.
"Alright! Enough pomp and circumstance." Principal Weatherbee called out over the commotion "Everyone, let's get to class. Now."
Ezra hung back while the rest of the Serpents shoved past, eyes boring into Cheryl Blossom as she stood there.
She tutted as she passed Reggie, pulling at one of the strings of his hoodie "Just when I was beginning to think you were tolerable."
Her shoulder collided harshly with Cheryl's as she passed, following the rest of her friends into the student lounge.
