Chapter 27

Ezra Jones

Okay, so maybe finding Jughead, Archie and Gladys wasn't as easy as I thought it would.

I pulled in to a small gas station, feeling like I would dehydrate if I didn't get a drink soon. I grabbed a bottle of water and a packet of gummy worms before heading to the counter.

"Haven't seen you around here, passing through?" The teenage boy at the till asks, ringing up what I picked up.

I shake my head "No, I'm looking for someone. Do you happen to know a Gladys Jones?"

He laughed lightly "Oh everyone knows Gladys, whatcha need from her?"

"It's uh a private matter, look I just wanna know where I can find her, okay?" I grab my stuff, handing him the money.

He raises an eyebrow at me "About a mile ahead, on the right"

I thank him, throwing what I bought into my bag and leaving. I climbed onto my bike and followed the directions I was given, sure enough a mile and a right turn later I stood in front of a gate with 'Jones Yard' posted across it.

"Hello?" I call out, pushing at the gate. It's dark but I can make out a few people near a fire.

Not getting an answer I decided to do one of the few things I'm good at, break in. I began climbing the wire fence. Once both my legs are over I'm grabbed by the ankles and pinned to the ground buy some guy.

"Who are you?" He screams in my face, using his knee to further pin me to the ground.

"What the hell?! Get off me you freak!" I yell, kicking out.

I hear footsteps coming towards us and a mixture of voices "What's going on here?"

"She jumped the fence"

"Get the fuck off of me" I spit, squirming in his grip.

The boy is lifted off of me and I scramble to my feet, drawing back and punching him in the stomach "Don't ever touch me again, pig" I adjust my jacket as he doubles over.

"Ezra? How did you find us?" Jughead appears from the back of the group.

I grit my teeth "You asshole!" I shout, lunging towards him.

Gladys grabs me by the arm, appearing out of thin air apparently "Hey! Knock it off,"

I snatch my arm away roughly "Don't act like you can tell me what to do, you aren't my mother"

"Ez, Don't. Jellybeans on her way over" Archie warns, resting his hand on my shoulder.

I smile widely as I see her getting closer, she smiles too as she runs towards me and jumping into a hug.

Once I've been introduced as a Jones everyone goes back to whatever it is they were doing, JB following Archie like a lost puppy.

How cute, she has a crush.

"Hey, pumpkin" Gladys sighs, taking a seat beside me.

I side eye her before rolling my eyes "Don't call me that, I'm not a little kid anymore"

"You've grown up, I know that. You're beautiful, Jug was telling me you've got a boyfriend now. He sounds sweet" Gladys smiles, leaning back in her seat.
