Chapter 20

AN: I know what happens in this chapter happens earlier in the show,but it's my book so don't @ me x

Ezra Jones

"What!? No that's bullshit,the Serpents need you. You can't just retire because some asshole cop tells you to!" I semi-shout at my dad from the kitchen as I make myself something to eat.

"Calm down doll,you and Jughead can take my place,you'll be fine without your old man" he smiles putting on his Serpent jacket for the last time.

The Serpents were throwing my dad a retirement party because he's giving up his place,which I wasn't happy about at all.

I abandon my food and begin pulling on my shoes "We don't want to be in charge,Jesus Christ dad we can barely keep up on our grades nevermind the Serpents" I sigh grabbing Jugheads old jacket,seeming as I've yet to receive a new one.

My dad opens the trailer door letting me out first before turning the light off and closing the door behind him "You mean to tell me your grades are slipping?" He asks,now in full dad mode.

"No..well kind of,you know I'm not the smartest,but anyway that's not important right now"

He shakes his head as we head up the steps of the Wyrm "Listen doll,there's nothing for you to worry about,and your grades are important."

Once inside he disappears,leaving me to my own devices. Looking around I notice Jughead and Archie having a bromance moment before Jughead walks away towards the bar. I follow him,not wanting to look like a loner.

When I get there he's already having a conversation with Toni,leaving me stand there awkwardly. I turn to walk away to find Fangs it Sweet Pea when I see my mom walk in,dressed in all black and looking totally gorgeous.

"Holy shit,mom you look great" I beam walking over to her.

"Tell me about it, I couldn't convince this one to dress appropriately," She says looking over at Betty who's sticking out like a sore thumb "At least one of my daughters knows how to dress" she nudges me smiling before turning to Hogeye "Hogeye! Get me-"

"Tequila,straight up" He cuts her off with the bottle in his hand "hold the worm" both of them finish together. Cute.

I notice Sweet Pea and Fangs over at one of the pool tables and decide to make my way over to them.

"Hey,dorks" I nudge Fangs' hip making him miss his shot.

"You're such a dick" he mumbles shoving me lightly.

"What's good,ugly" Sweet Pea smiles leaning down to kiss my forehead "Where's your dad?"

I shrug in response sitting myself up on the pool table,as Archie and Veronica made their way on stage.
The song 'Mad World' begins playing,one of Veronica's favorites and the two began singing.

"Must they be so depressing,it's a party for fuck sake" Jughead sighs sitting beside me on the pool table,earning a slight laugh from Sweet Pea who wrapped his arm around me.

There was obvious tension between Archie and Veronica,it was visible by the look on both their faces. Out of nowhere Veronica rushes off stage,Archie follows calling her name. Part of me wanted to follow to see if she was okay,but I wasn't really in the mood to be told I'm after Archie again. Sweets start booing and I shove his shoulder laughing lightly.

Betty steps up onto the stage and I turn my head to Jughead who looks very confused. She picks up the song from where Varchie left off and began unbuttoning her shirt. Jugheads look of confusion is replaced with one of anger. Sweets just stares at the stage,smirking slightly.

I hit his shoulder removing his arms from around me "That's my sister,you ass hat!" I shove him backwards making my way to the stage.

I bump into our mom on the way there,disbelief etched into her features "Oh my god" she whispers.

My dad appears,draping his jacket around her shoulders ushering her off the stage.

"Let's show her some of that hospitality us Serpents are known for!" He yells making the crowd applaud "You know what? I've been in and out of the Serpents since I was younger than my son,younger than my daughter even. And it's been a-a wild ride. Good times,bad times. But through it all the Serpents stuck by my side! While most other people turned their backs on me,my own family included" he glances at Jughead and I.

"Don't look at me!" I yell making a few older Serpents laugh,including my dad.

"I know doll,you're a gem" he smiles leaning down to ruffle my hair,he pulls me up onto the stage and wraps his arm around my shoulders "And this little shit? She's a Serpent through and through,whether she likes it or not she's more of a Serpent than most people in this room!" I look down smiling.

"Shut up,you're embarrassing me" I mumble

"I don't care. Now,letter of the law says I can't be here in the Serpent den,that I can't associate with my friends,my real family. My blood. I've been thinking about that,and it'll be a cold day in hell before a snake let's a pig tell him what to do."

I smile widely looking up at him before looking around the room,people are cheering. Jughead is confused and angry and my mom turns and leave. I don't care though,my dads staying and that's all I care about.

"Northside wants me out of this gang? Well they better bring a coffin 'cause FP Jones ain't retiring!" He yells louder than ever, removing his arm from around me and walking back to the middle of the stage. "I'm not going gently into the night! I'm here to stay,so bring the fire!" I join in on the cheering as I notice Sweets punch the air as he cheered. I quickly wrap my arms around my dad hugging him tightly.

As I walk through the crowd people hit me on the back,congratulating me for some weird reason. Sweet Pea lifts me up hugging me tightly and kissing all over my face.

"Ew,get off of me. I'm still annoyed at you,you ass" I smile rolling my eyes.

"Hey,I'm just window shopping" he smirks as I hit his shoulder "I'm kidding you idiot,Jesus Christ. Why would I go after Betty when I have something better?" He puts me back on the ground looking over at my dad and Jug "What do you think they're talking about"

"When Penny came back,she told my dad about her and Jugheads deal,but of course he won't tell me" I roll my eyes leaning into him.

Jughead pushes through the crowd looking heavily pissed off. I excuse myself and follow him outside as he makes his way over to Betty.

"Hey,what's wrong was it the dance?" She asks noticing the expression on Jugheads face.

"It's everything. And yeah,why would you do that" he questions her.

"I was just about to ask the same thing,do you have any idea what you've gotten yourself into?" I butt in,getting a death glare from Betty.

"I wanted to be part of this. The Serpents,your world. Both of your worlds." She explains with a sigh.

"Why?" Jughead asks "Archie knew to cut bait. Now I'm dragging you down,I'm dragging my dad down,my little sister too."

"Hey,I was in long before you." I correct him as Sweet Pea joins us.

"Ezra,you have no idea what I'm talking about okay? And it's better if it stays that way," Jughead shrugs me off shaking his head.

"No,Jughead. I want to know how you screwed up so bad"

"I put your life on the line okay! I helped Penny with something,and to get me to stick around she threatened to blackmail me and hurt you" he explains in minimal detail.

"So you stopped doing jobs for her,knowing she would do something to her,and cut her tattoo out" Sweets wraps up "And you got my dumbass to help you out,without even telling me the whole thing"

I shake my head and grab his hand "Cmon Jordan,I wanna leave"

As we left the Whyte Wyrms parking lot I noticed Archie stood behind Veronica's car teary-eyed as Andre drove her home and Jughead push Betty away before walking away.

Everything was falling apart.
