Peter began to feel more separated from the rest of the team. The teen spent longer periods of time alone, avoiding all types of human contact. Every day, however, Steve would bring up food for Peter. These meals just filled up Peter's desk, as he did not have the energy to eat.
There was one thing that the Avengers did not know about Peter. Every day, he would sneak out of his room, even if it was just for a few minutes. He wouldn't wear his suit, however. The teen didn't want to use his suit anymore-he felt as if he had let Aunt May down. He felt as if May's death was his fault, since he hadn't been there to, well, do his job.
The brunette quietly slipped out the window, a bright glare stinging his eyes. He squinted, crawling down the side of the building. His heart pounded against his chest as he looked around at the city. It all looked so familiar, and it gave him bad memories.
Car horns blared at him as he sprinted across a street, jumping up a building and climbing up. He sat down on the edge of the roof, and softly smiled at the busy streets and pedestrians. There were no crimes occurring which he knew of, and he was glad.
After about an hour, the teen got up from his position, stretching out. He returned to the Headquarters, crawling back into his room. The first thing he saw was Tony sitting on his bed with his arms crossed, and Steve sitting beside him, rubbing his back.
"Peter," Tony said in a shaky voice.
"M-Mr. Stark, I'm sorry-"
"This is where you zip it!" Tony yelled, standing up. "Hey, shh.." Steve whispered to his boyfriend. Tony desperately stared at the blonde, sitting back down next to him and trying to catch his breath. Steve nodded, beginning to speak for Tony.
"Peter, you can't keep sneaking out like this. Your father was terrified when he came in here and found out you weren't here. We checked the security tapes... and this has been going on for too long. Why are you doing it, Pete?"
Peter looked down, his face red. He didn't even know his room had cameras. "I'm sorry- I just- I wanted to get... away.., you know?" He did not know how to explain himself, and hoped he made sense. "I just wanted to, um, forget everything."
Steve nodded, although Tony wasn't looking. He, although listening, was staring at his foot as it tapped against the floor.
"I get it, Pete. You've been through a lot recently. Just.. tell me or your father if you're going out, okay?"
Peter nodded quickly, before he and Steve both stared at Tony.
"Tony, are you-"
"I'm just so worried for you, Pete." Tony said, sniffling and wiping his eyes. "I love you."
Steve hugged Tony, and Peter quickly walked over to hug him as well.
"I love you too, Mr. Stark."
Later that night, Tony was, of course, in his lab. He was once again working on unnecessary advancements to his arc reactor, though he did not make any progress. The man put his head down on the table, sighing.
"Sir, you seem to be in distress." A male voice said.
"Shut up, Jarvis." Tony responded, rubbing his eyes and getting up from his seat. He sighed, eying a bottle of liquor. He had told Steve he'd try to drink less when he was stressed, but a little bit wouldn't hurt, right?
He walked over to the bottle, grabbing an empty cup and pouring some of the pungent liquid into it.
"Tony, don't."
