Monday approached, and Miley had just woken up. Sunday went by slowly, but not much happened. Miley was focusing on getting ready for school; with her first task being to get up out of bed.
She rolled over to her dresser and checked the time on her phone. 7:21am. Placing the phone back down, she finally managed to get up. She then made her way over to her closet, and picked out today's outfit, which was a white blouse, a brown leather jacket, and light blue jeans.
She heard a knock on her door.
"I'm up mom." She said.
The door then slightly opened.
"It's actually me." Her father confirmed.
"Oh, hey dad." She greeted, sitting down on the edge of the bed.
"Hey, just wanted to see how you were doing."
She shrugged. "I'm great. I thought you left already."
"Yeah I'm about to head out. Your mother has something to tell you."
She nodded. "OK."
"Alright." He smiled. "Bye."
"Bye dad."
He then closed the door. Afterwards, she headed for the showers and then got dressed, before making it downstairs. Her mom was in the kitchen.
"Hey. Good morning." She greeted Miley.
"Hey. Dad said that you have something to tell me--" She half-asked half-stated.
She then realised the smile on her mother's face.
"What's with the smile?"
Her mother then placed her breakfast around the island and Miley took a stool.
"Well, I applied for a job as a lecturer at the university a few weeks ago, and they just called me back."
"And--?" Her eyes widened.
"I'm starting tomorrow."
"That's amazing." She congratulated.
Her mother nodded once more and smiled. "They want me to come in today to check the place out."
Susan had to quit her previous job as a high school teacher in Rockbridge due to Adam's disappearance and them having to move to Redwood. Jack previously worked in an office at a multinational company. A branch was located near the area, so he was able to start work one week after moving.
"I'm so happy for you mom." Miley smiled.
"Thank you Miley." She sat around the island with her. "So what's on today's agenda?"
"Brian and I are going to try out for the swim team after school." She informed, before taking a bite out of her sandwich.
"That's great. I remember when Adam taught you how to swim--took weeks."
Miley chuckled. "I did make it hard on him."
Susan chuckled as well. She then calmly sighed before smiling. "I really miss him."
Miley smiled reassuringly before nodding.
"Well--" Susan started, "I don't want to be late on my first day."
"Technically, it's not your first day."
Susan laughed before getting up. "Don't start with me."
Miley chuckled; raising her hands in defense. She then finished her breakfast while her mother got ready. Luckily, all three of them had their own cars so afterwards, Miley left for school.
