It was raining the following day, and Jason had gotten up early. Last night was a disaster for him; seeing Lana's parents at the hospital. It turns out that Paige was the one who phoned them, and even though she was only doing what she thought was best for Lana, Jason was upset about it. He knew more about the situation than what Aiden had told her, and apparently, Aiden did not tell her and Dominic everything.
He looked out his window to see the moderate pattern of the rain. He got out of bed and put on a white merino and a pair of sweatpants that he took from his drawer, before heading downstairs. Surprisingly, he saw Paige in the living room. She was on the couch with some books in front of her.
"Jason--"
"I didn't know anyone was up."
"--I'm just finishing up some homework for English."
He nodded. He then made his way into the kitchen and gazed out the window. He was lost in the sound of the rain. It created a somewhat peaceful atmosphere that he seemed to have enjoyed. He was however interrupted by the sound of footsteps heading in his direction.
"Hey--about last night--"
"If you're gonna apologize again, then save it. I told you already, it's fine."
She remained quiet. He then made his way over to the cupboard for a box of cereal and a bowl, before approaching the fridge.
"I just don't understand why you got upset." She resumed.
He got the carton of milk from the fridge, then he approached the island. He sighed. "What has Aiden told you?"
She recalled. "He told me about the man with the mask--"
"We still don't know if it's a guy--but, go on."
"Uhm--he told me about--Miley's missing brother, and---about you're accident."
"Which wasn't an accident."
"But how are Lana's parents involved?"
"I'm not certain how, but they are. They can't be trusted. They forced Lana to do things that--I don't think she even wanted to do. And I wouldn't be surprised if she's in the hospital right now because of them."
Paige nodded. "Well, whatever you guys are doing, I wanna help."
"That's what I was afraid of. This is exactly why I didn't want you to know." He said as he poured out the contents of the box into the bowl.
"I'm going to help either way."
"Yeah I know that, 'cause you're very stubborn." He then poured out the milk. "But this isn't a game Paige, this is life and death."
"I know that, I'm not a child Jason."
He rolled his eyes at that. "Yeah. So you keep reminding me." He then walked out of the kitchen and headed up the stairs. When he got to his room, he heard his phone in the middle of ringing. He quickly made his way over to it and answered the call.
"Hey--"
"Hey. Ah--can we talk?"
"--yeah sure. I'm getting ready to head to the hospital before school so--meet me there."
"OK."
He then hung up. And with that, he finished his breakfast and got ready before making his way out.
🔪
Miley heard a knock on her door.
"Come in."
