Silas collapsed onto his bed with a loud groan and stared at the ceiling. How is she here? He asked himself. It's impossible. He closed his eyes tightly. Well not impossible.. But still it shouldn't have happened. Now she's in danger. Again. Probably in even worse danger now that she's near me. There were worse things than dying. Silas could attest to that. He'd seen the work of demons on humanity. What they could do to them. He'd fought their power his entire existence. He couldn't lose someone else.
Have I only made things worse for her? He wondered. His cell phone vibrated on his nightstand causing him to open his eyes. "Not now I'm busy being miserable." He complained loudly to one but himself. The phone vibrated again over and over until Silas got up with a groan. "Fine you win this time.." He muttered as he grabbed his phone and answered it. "Yellow." He said avoiding the usual greeting awkwardly. "Heyyy Si what's up, you awake?" Luke's voice asked through the phone's speaker.
"I'm alright. Just was..uh about to study for finals." Silas lied tapping his foot on the wood floor. "What'cha' need?" He asked trying to cut the small talk. "I was wondering if you wanted to come over. My parents are out as per the usual and I'm ordering some pizza. My little sister is home but she shouldn't bother us. You in?" Luke asked hopefully. Silas grinned and paused pretending to make a decision. He knew how much Luke hated waiting on the phone.
"Si? Hello? Aw come one man don't leave me hanging I'm dying over here." Luke whined. Silas laughed and ran his hand through his hair. "Sure man. I'll head over there in a few. Just gotta get some stuff together" He replied with a smile to himself. "Sweet. I'll leave the door unlocked. When you get here just come on in. But make some noise so I know it's you yeah?" Luke said. "Whatever you say Luke you're paying." Silas answered. Luke murmured something intangible on the other side of the phone and hung up. Silas turned his phone off and slipped it into his pocket. He then grabbed his leather jacket and slipped it on before walking out the door.
When Silas got to Luke's house he was not disappointed to find the door was unlocked as was promised. He turned the knob and as soon as the door was open he was greeted by a little girl hugging his waist almost instantly. "Hi Silas!" Grace said happily looking up at him. She was wearing her favorite pink pajamas covered in little white kittens. "Hey Grace. Nice to see you too." Silas laughed in surprise, giving her a small squeeze. She giggled, let him go, and ran out of sight. Her blonde hair flying behind her like a flag.
"Hey Si! Come on in! I'm in the kitchen. Pizza's already here!" Luke called from the other room. Silas walked down the hall and into the kitchen. Luke was pouring some drinks in clear crystal glasses."Hey." Silas greeted before leaning against the counter to watch his actions. "Hellllo there." Luke replied pleasantly, keeping his eyes on his current task. "Glad you could make it. I was kinda bored tonight." He continued setting one drink down before filling up the other."Like really nothing is on t.v... not that you're a replacement for my own entertainment or anything." He added quickly.
"Wouldn't miss it Luke." Silas chuckled and tapped the counter with his fingers. "So what are we gonna do?" He asked taking the glass his friend had filled. Luke set the other drink down and screwed on the soda's lid before taking a sip of his drink.. "Well I was thinking first we'd talk about your mystery girlfriend. And then.." Luke started. Silas glared at him and he laughed holding up a hand. "Okay okay jeez leweez. Just kidding. Lighten up Si." He said taking a longer drink of his soda.
Silas did likewise, the orange soda making his mouth tingle before he set his glass down. The carbonation cracking the ice cubes in the drink with little pops. "I was actually thinking we should go over our science project. Since we both haven't got any ideas of what to do." Luke said. Silas frowned remembering their brief conversation earlier that day. "Yeah that's probably a good idea." He agreed eyeing the pizza. "But could we do it over the food?" He asked hopefully, almost expecting his stomach to growl.
