Silas couldn't get the night's events out of his head the following day. The recent memories playing in his mind continuously. His english teacher was showing them how to write a proper creative essay. Something he actually wouldn't mind doing on a normal day, but all his mind could focus on was the demon's words to him. "Orders are orders.." Silas mumbled quietly.
The only thing he could assume was that someone obviously wanted him dead. Not just a little dead but very dead. Who though? He wondered. That he had no ideas about, but if he was correct in assuming so, it had to be a very powerful demon. To have followers that could possess humans so easily they had to be a powerhouse of some kind. He shuddered and rested his elbows on his table, grabbing at his hair as he thought more.
There must be something I'm missing. Something that's changed. Why are they attacking me now? It's been nearly two decades. There must be a reason. Demons always have a reason for what they do. That's the one good thing about them. They're predictable..normally. Silas pulled on his hair and sighed dropping his hands onto the table in frustration.
The English Teacher Ms. Florentine frowned at him, not used to seeing her favorite student so distracted. She finished her example for the class, watching him out of the corner of her eye. Then asked if there was any questions from anyone. No one raised a hand. Seeing there was no questions for her she allowed the class to talk. She then walked over to Silas and sat down next to him.
"Are you alright Silas?" She asked him, her voice soft and gentle. Silas blinked and looked up at her. "Oh hey Ms. Florentine." He said quietly. "Yeah I'm okay." She frowned slightly at him, disbelief written in her features. "You don't seem okay. But you're a smart boy, I'll trust your judgement. Get some rest tonight." She said. Silas smiled at her gratefully. "I'll try. Thanks." He replied. Ms. Florentine smiled with a curt nod, got up, and went to take a seat at her desk.
Lilly moved over from her seat and sat right next to him in the same chair Ms Florentine just had moments before. "Hey are you okay?" She asked with concern. Silas looked at her gentle worried face and gulped, giving her a slight nod. I am now... He thought trying not to meet her eyes. "Yeah I'm okay just a little tired I guess." He said after a moment. Lilly didn't seem to relax any despite his answer.
"I'm really okay. I just don't feel my best today. I'll feel better tomorrow you'll see." He assured her. Lilly frowned slightly not buying it but didn't press him for anything. Which Silas was grateful for. "If you say so." She said looking at him closer, but then her gaze softened. "If you ever need to talk to me about anything I'm here okay?" She asked gently touching his hand.
Silas sucked in a breath and felt his heartbeat quicken from her touch. You had to go and do that.. He thought biting his lip. Silas looked into her chocolate colored eyes and felt the heat rise into his face. She smiled at him brightly, pink coloring her cheeks. Oh gosh I'm staring again. Silas realized. "Y..yeah sure. He said slightly above a whisper lowering his gaze. "I'll think about it."
Lilly let his hand go, leaving her warmth behind on his own. "I'll see you tonight at Luke's house right? For the science project?" She asked getting up from the desk beside his. Silas looked at her and nodded. "Yeah I'll be there." He replied with a weak smile. Lilly smiled big as the bell rang signaling class was over. "See you then, then." She said giving his arm a small squeeze before grabbing her bag.
"Yeah see ya then." Silas said as she walked away, letting his smile fade. He grabbed his own bag and slipped it on following the rest of the kids out of the classroom. Silas slowed to close the door behind him and then headed home. The warmth from Lilly's hand still remaining in his own. Despite the cool chilly air outside.

Once Silas returned home he blinked and dropped his bag in shock. The door to his house was splintered and hanging on the one good hinge. "No.." He whispered in disbelief, shaking his head. "No.. no no!" He ran inside and scanning the living room. The dust was still hanging loose in the air from whatever had passed through. It had to have been recent. Silas clinched his fists and peeked into the kitchen cautiously.
The fridge hung open, the doors to his cabinets too. All his food was gone. Everything was empty, not a single box or can remained. Are you kidding me? This isn't an invasion this is just plain cruelty. Silas thought angrily. He walked back into the living room and heard a creak from his room upstairs. Silas froze completely still, his eyes widened as the realization hit him. It's still here! His mind screamed.
He walked upstairs slowly to avoid making noise to alert the creature and found his door closed once he reached the top of the stairs. Silas debated on casting a defensive spell but decided he'd need the magic energy later and turned the doorknob slowly and quietly. He heard the soft click as the lock released and slammed the door open with his shoulder, stumbling into the room.
What appeared to be a small black animal on his bed squeaked and dropped a bag of cookies, the bag tumbling to the floor. Silas frowned and tilted his head, more than puzzled. "What the heck..?" He muttered studying the creature intently. It almost looked like a normal black house cat. But its fur was too shiny, too perfect. Like magic energy radiated from it. The creature hissed at him and hid under his pillows out of sight.
Silas smiled and walked over to his bed and sat down. He picked up the fallen bag of cookies and pulled one out. "I assume that you're the one who broke my door and stole all my food right?" Silas asked setting the cookie down by the pillows. No answer came from under the pillows. After a moment, the creature slid its paw out grabbing the cookie and pulled it back under without any warning. Munching sounds could be heard under the pillows.
Silas grinned and pulled out another cookie. "It's okay if you are. I can fix the door. And food is replaceable. But if you want another cookie you have to come back out." He said setting the cookie closer to himself trying to lure the creature to him. A black paw poked out again and felt around before being pulled back in. A small moment of silence passed until the words came to him. "You... are not human?" A voice in his head asked.
It sounded a touch feminine so Silas decided whatever it was, was a girl. "No I'm not a human." He answered honestly. The cat peeked its black head out and meowed at him quietly. "You are an angel yesss?" She asked him. Silas thought for a moment. "I am an angel.. or at least I used to be." He said softly. The cat slowly crawled out from under the pillows and cautiously moved toward him. It's eye's lowered almost as if in respect.
"You will not.. harm me?" She asked in his mind. Silas looked at the small cat and smiled a little. "Not unless you give me a reason to no." He said honestly. The cat moved closer and ate the cookie he had set on the bed. The cookie was gone in seconds. "Thessse things are good..what are they called?" The cat asked licking its paws for any left over crumbs. Silas laughed and pulled out a third cookie.
"They're called cookies. And if you don't mind me asking. What are you?" The feline looked up at him, eyes wide with disbelief. "You do not know? Yet you are an angel?" She asked with surprise. Silas frowned. "Ex-Angel. And yes I don't know. I have a few guesses but.." He trailed off. The cat got up again and stepped beside him, purring as it started nuzzling his leg with his cheek. "I am a figurashifter. What humanss would call a ssshapeshifter."
Silas blinked. "A shapeshifter? Aren't you a type of demon then?" He asked. The cat hissed in disapproval of his choice of words. "Ssshapeshifters are not demon. Or demon born. We are only demon like." She said calming only as she nuzzled him.. Silas stored that information for future use. "O..okay not a demon. Got it. But what are you doing here? Like in my house?" He asked confused.
The feline stopped purring and he felt he'd hit a bad topic. She looked at him, anguish on her face. "My masster died centuriesss ago. I've been wandering sssince.." If a cat could cry Silas was sure this one would. He nervously set his hand on her back and began to pet her soft gleaming fur. The cat stiffened slightly at his touch but as he continued to pet her, she gave in and started purring again.
"That feelss.. nice." She said quietly in his head. Silas pet the little cat some more, running his hand over her soft fur. Letting his fingers brush over her little ears. "So you have no where to stay?" He asked gently. The small feline shook her head. "No.. I'll move on until the day that I do." She said even quieter. Silas frowned and debated in his head the pros and cons of a cat being around.
He shook his head stopping the internal argument and gently rubbed the cat's ears between his fingers. She purred more immediately. "You can stay here if you'd like. I wouldn't mind the company." Silas said encouragingly. The black cat looked up at him. Her green eyes glowing with hope that hadn't been there before. "I... I can s..sstay?" She asked, happiness flowing into his mind as she did.
"Sure. Just try to leave some cookies for me too okay?" He said laughing a lot. "Yes Massster!" The small cat cried as she jumped onto his lap and curled up purring louder than any normal cat ever could. Silas smiled a bit and pet her from head to tail. Her little burst of excitement cheering him up more than he had been in days. "What's your name?" He asked quietly. The cat relaxed in her new master's lap, and closed her eyes. "It's Raisa..."
