"What's wrong with people today?" Luke murmured a few days later setting his tray down next to Silas. "What are you talking about?" Silas asked staring at his meal wondering if chicken could look any more like plastic. The skin was a weird pinkish color and looked fried, yet roasted at the same time. He prodded it with his fork feeling it squish beneath the pressure and decided not to even bother eating it. Choosing hunger over a rare human disease that might kill him. Luke sighed sitting in the chair beside him heavily, the chair squeaking as it slid back a inch or two on the tile floor.

"I don't know man. It's like the world's freaking turning upside down or something." Luke groaned to him. Silas tried to stab a piece of watermelon with his fork but found it was frozen solid. He poked it a bit harder and broke the tooth of his fork off the side. Silas sighed cursing humans for being so horribly cruel in the food industry and eyed his friend warily. "What do you mean upsidedown? Did something happen?" He asked a little confused by Luke's comment.

Luke nodded and waved his hands in frustration. "Well yeah! First off there were these guys I didn't recognize in my English class this morning. They were screwing around you know like us normal guys do." He said taking his fork in his hand. Silas nodded still frowning at his frozen watermelon considering if it could be used as a weapon of some sort. Rather than as food. "Yeah and?" Silas replied to show he was listening. "Well out of nowhere they were at each other's throats. Like screaming and wailing like animals. Mr. Hillman had to physically pry them apart to get them to stop fighting." Luke continued.

Silas shot a bored glance at his friend. "So? People fight all the time don't they? Like just last week there was those guys in gym class. One found out the other was cheating with his girlfriend. Now that was a lot of blood." He reminded him. Luke shuddered at the mention of that. "I guess so." He said softly stabbing his chicken with his fork and bringing it to his mouth. Silas grimaced a little as his friend actually started eating the unknown substance on his tray, standing up as if to leave. "But that's just the first part." Luke murmured taking a loud bite. "There were these two girls I know are like best friends... I've never seen them even snap at each other. Right?"

Silas sat back in his chair getting a tad more interested. "Right." He replied. "Well one of them was whispering to the other in the hallway. Like about cute boys like me or something." Silas rolled his eyes at that but listened more intently. " But suddenly she just walked away super angry. Her friend was calling to her to stop and seemed really scared." Luke frowned and looked at him. "What's going on man? Are people going crazy or something?" Silas didn't answer for a while. Not completely sure himself. He'd noticed things like Luke had described but didn't want to admit it to himself. "I don't know what's going on." He answered finally, looking at his untouched tray. "But I'd like to find out."

The lunch bell rang throughout the room announcing lunch was over. Silas and Luke walked out into the hall as fast as they could. They left before everyone to beat the crowd and started to discuss their science project. "I think maybe we should do like a special kind of ice cream flavor." Luke said thoughtfully. Silas who was checking his phone battery nodded, with a small frown as he noticed his phone was almost dead. "Sure what flavor were you thinking of?" He asked.

Luke thought for a moment. "Maybe like tropical fruits of some kind. Like pineapple, or maybe kiwi, something like that." Silas grinned and pocketed his phone. "Pineapple kiwi huh? That sounds interesting." He said intrigued. Luke looked at him, judging if he was being sarcastic or not. "So... think we could do it?" He asked hopefully. Silas shrugged half-heartedly. "Dunno. We sure can try though. I'd love to try something new"

"What are you guys talking about?" A voice asked beside him. Silas turned and jumped in surprise seeing Lilly there. "Oh hey Lilly! We're just talking about our science project.." Silas replied trying to control his voice unsuccessfully. How does she always do this to me? He questioned himself with quiet frustration. Lilly smiled as though she could hear his thoughts. "You mean for Mrs. Cordell? The... do it yourself make it yourself project?" She asked.
