Silas slumped into his bed, the springs letting out a whining squeak from the added weight of his body. He tugged off his shoes and tossed them away without care for where they landed in his room. What's happening... He asked the silence of his mind. No answer came. Silas lay back and closed his eyes. A familiar weight crawled onto his chest immediately as they did. "Hello Master. How wasss your day?" Raisa asked pleasantly, her purring voice entering his mind from the silence.
Silas opened his eyes and started petting the feline's head. The cat shifted, purred, and rubbed her head against his hand. "It was a interesting day to say the least Raisa." He said softly the day's events replaying in his head like a movie. The cat growled a little in her throat as she saw what had happened in his mind. "Master thisss isn't good. It ssseems more demonss are coming for you." Raisa said.
"Yeah tell me about it." He said with a sigh. "I'm just worried about Lilly. Why do they want her so badly? What do they hope to gain? I just don't see they're goal Raisa." Raisa stopped growling and curled up more on his chest watching him. "You really love her don't you?" She asked, gentle curiosity in her voice. Silas smiled a little and pet her ears absentmindedly. "Yeah I really do. I guess I always have. It feels wrong not to."
The two were silent until Silas grabbed his remote and flipped on the t.v. The screen came to life showing the same reporter from weeks before. Their same familiar sad expression rested on their face. "Further reports show another devastating car accident has occurred within the area. The reports state forty or more victims are involved. I repeat forty or more victims were involved at the scene." The reporter said eyes filled with sadness.
Silas' mind must have begun racing with ideas, because Raisa shook her head and looked at him. "Masster you can't blame yoursself. The demonss might not have causssed thiss." She said unconvincingly. "Or even if they did. It iss not your fault. Pleassse do not go." She pleaded. Silas sighed and gently set the small cat on his bed. "I know who would've done this Rai. And I can't let him get away with it." He said, thinking of the demon who had gotten away after the snow plow had buried him in snow.
Raisa hugged herself around his hand before he could get up. "I can't let you go Master. You could get hurt again." She cried softly. Silas smiled and pet the little cat's ears trying to calm her. "I get hurt a lot Raisa. This shouldn't be any different. I always come out on top. You'll see." He said hiding his doubt under a veil of ease. Raisa looked into his eyes, her own filled with tears and whispered in his mind. "We both know Master. That thisss iss different. You're becoming weaker by the day.. I sense it. You feel it too I know it."
Silas nodded and gently pulled his hand away from the cat. "I know Raisa...I know... But I have to try. While I still have power left. Do you understand?" He asked lowering his eyes. There was a short pause, then Raisa answered. "I do Masster..I ssshould go with you." Silas shook his head. "No Raisa. Not this time. I need you to defend the house okay? If anything happens to this place.." He looked around at the ancient walls and broken floorboards. "I don't know what I'd do. It's all I have to call my own anymore." He mumbled.
"And me.." Raisa said quietly to him, her head pressing against his lowered hand. Silas smiled and pet her soft little head, tracing his fingers through her fur. "And you Raisa." He agreed. The little cat purred and hugged his hand again much softer than before. After a minute of letting the feline have his hand, Silas pulled it away. "Wait here alright? I'll be back in a little while you'll see." He said softly and rubbed her head again.
Raisa purred and seemed to relax slightly as she felt his touch. Silas turned to go and opened the door. "Master wait." Raisa said softly. Silas turned to back to her. "Yes Raisa?" He asked patiently. The small cat looked down, her ears drooping lower than he'd ever seen them. "I know you're getting weaker.. But you're still an angel. Don't ever forget thatss.. Come back safesss.. Please don't do anything stupidss" She whimpered.
