Silas woke with a gasp of breath and sat up quickly where he lay. Pain shot through him like a tidal wave and he grimaced, hugging his sides with a shiver."Whoa whoa. Take it easy big guy. You're okay. You're okay. You're in the hospital." Silas' eyes adjusted to the bright light and he made eye contact with a woman standing near him, she appeared to be a nurse. She smiled at him and pressed some buttons on a machine beside the bed.
"Just lie back down and relax. I'll speak to you in a moment." She said concentrating on her task. Silas nodded lied back against the pillow on the bed, it was much fluffier than the one he had at home. It was like lying his head on a cloud. The pain inside him flared as he moved, but subsided to a dull ache once he held still. "Thank you.." He rasped. The nurse didn't acknowledge his comment besides a slight nod of her head. Silas closed his eyes deciding she couldn't hear him or was too focused on whatever she was doing.
I'm in the hospital. That means someone found me and.. Oh no who found me? Oh Gods what if it was one of the- Pained flared in his chest again making him clench his eyes shut and groan. The nurse sighed sadly and adjusted his blanket, pulling it back over him. "You are a really lucky kid. If that girl hadn't found you when she did.. You wouldn't have made it here in time. You're already looking so much better." The nurse said in a soft gentle voice, like any raised vowels or syllables might shatter him. Silas opened his eyes as he listened to her.
"That's why you need to take it easy. You're covered in third and second degree burns. Not to mention you were stabbed with something. Something very sharp I might add." She said with a frown. Silas nodded and furrowed his brows together. "Y..yeah that kind of hurt." He said with a light chuckle. The nurse brightened as he spoke. "You're a pretty tough kid... Silas right? Most people wouldn't be able to talk yet. After an experience like you've been through some might not for weeks. I'm glad you are though. It means you're recovering at an excellent rate."
Silas nodded and tried adjusting himself in the bed, earning a new wave of pain in return for his efforts. "W..who found me?" He asked curiously, his voice growing a bit stronger. The nurse smiled brightly and straightened her back. "Would you like to see her? She's been asking about you for hours. She's just outside in the waiting room." Silas nodded and the nurse walked out of the room, pulling a set of green curtains shut. Silas sighed and waited impatiently, hearing the door open and close shut far slower than he would have liked.
He reached for the t.v remote sitting next to him on a short table. Silas frowned upon finding it was just out of his reach. "Oh come on.." He growled to himself and leaned back with a sigh. One...two...THREE! SIlas counted in his head, he shot sideways a second later snagging the side of the remote with his finger tips. "Gotcha! Wait no no no gah!" The remote twirled in a circle before it fell on the floor with a loud clap of plastic. The remote's batteries popped out from the impact and rolled away under his bed out of sight. The silence that followed only interrupted by the small beeps from the machine reading Silas' vitals.
Silas groaned and shuddered with renewed pain, lying his head back again. I didn't need to watch t.v. anyways. Even inanimate objects want to screw me over. He thought bitterly and breathed slowly as he could manage. After forcing himself to relax, Silas realized the nurse had been gone a good few minutes. Didn't she say the room was close by? She should be back by now. Is something wrong out there? He wondered and shifted trying to get into a more comfortable position. He fingered the bandages on his chest and frowned to himself in thought.
I hate bandages.. These better be coming off soon. Silas dropped his hands into his lap and sighed letting his gaze rest on the ceiling above him.The door to the room opened again with a sharp click. "He's right in there sweetie. Be gentle, and talk slowly. He's still shaking off the medicine. I'll be in to check on you in a little while." The door closed shut and there was the sound of footsteps behind the curtain as the person approached. Silas frowned again. I don't like that the nurse is letting some stranger visit me alone.. something's up. He thought suspiciously.
