Venus screamed again when she saw peacekeepers up ahead, ducking behind a pylon. Finnick's arms were wrapped around her as she was pressed into his chest, his head turned to the side to try and look up ahead. Gunshots were rapid, nicking the edge of the pylon; sending small bits of concrete into the air. Katniss sent an explosive arrow at the two peacekeepers to there right, killing them instantly as the roof above the pair crumbled; crushing their dead bodies.
The couple made a run for it when Katniss did, following after her as they headed up a clear part of the subway platform. But when Homes was surrounded by light and turned to hundreds of small cubes, all of them falling to the ground, they stumbled slightly. Venus met Cressida's horrfied face, lightly pulling the woman forward as she passed her.
'Keep going! Keep going!' Gale yelled.
They avoid all the next beams of light that shot from the roof and just when they though they were safe, the floor began to fall away from behind them as blades, like those found on a tractor, broke through the ground. Venus made sure Finnick was beside her as she ran, constantly looking over her shoulder to look at him.
They ran toward the next set of stairs up to the surface, the blades breaking away the final part of the ground they could reach; causing Peeta and Katniss to launch themselves into the air. The Everdeen was the first to get up, running forward as Peeta continued to writhe on the floor. Venus ran toward the blonde, trying to pull his hands from around his ears as Katniss yelled at them. She rolled him onto his side, pulling him up to sit before she cupped his face in her hands.
'Peeta, we have to keep going!' She yelled as she searched his face.
'I'm a mutt! I can't keep control!' The blonde yelled.
'Yes, you can! Look at me!'
'Leave me! I'm a mutt!'
Venus clenched her eyes shut when Katniss shoved her backwards onto the ground, pain searing through the back of the shoulder. She laid their for a second before rolling over to get up, Finnick helping her do so as Katniss worked on getting Peeta up. She struggled not to cry as she stumbled away from the pair, turning back to look when Peeta suddenly went quiet. Though she was quick to look away when she found the pair kissing, striding ahead to get out of the subway.
She rounded the corner with Cressida, the blonde shout out, 'I know where we are! I know a place. Up those stairs.'
The Hereford girl quickened her step as she skipped every second step, shivering lightly as snow feathered down from the sky. She flinched when she came face to face with an image of Scout, continuing to walk forward knowing she could cry when she was safe.
'Keep going,' Cressida urged.
They ran into the shop square, one of the many throughout the Capitol, rushing up to a door of a dress shop. Cressida banged her fist on the glass door, everyone else was looking around for peacekeepers.
