Everyone feared the day of the reaping. It didn't matter if you were from District One or Twelve, everyone held some type of fear towards it. For it was the day that decided your fate of entering the Hunger Games, leaving everyone you knew waiting to see if you were coming home.

But for that to happen, you would have to be able to kill twenty three other innocent people and come out on top.

Venus Hereford won the 66th annual Hunger Games at the age of fifteen, the youngest ever for District Ten. The many years of training her parents and older siblings had given her had finally paid off, allowing her to come home to them.

But not everything was the same when she returned, she was different; scared, jumpy, anxious. To her family, she was a completely different girl but that was to be expected after any Hunger Games.

During her Victor Tour when visiting District 4, she ran into an old friend or as she liked to called him; her best friend. Finnick Odair was a name that brought an instant smile to the girl's face and the butterflies to erupt in her stomach.

The children had met when Finnick had made his rounds on his own Victor Tour the year before, the pair had run away from the District wide party; hiding out near the Hereford's house for hours before they were found by Finnick's mentor, Mags.

From then on they were almost inseparable, each child begging to visit the other nearly everyday and when they couldn't see each other they would write letters to one another.
But it had been a few years since the Hereford girl had seen that boy, though she still recieved letters in the mail every other month.

And now the 75th Hunger Games was upon Panem, and President Snow wasn't even close to being finished with the existing victors; instead their said fates of comfort and luxury were about to be torn apart once more.
