The next morning, you couldn't help but wake up with a smile on your face. It didn't even bother you that Jimin was still pouting, distancing himself from you. You cheerily ate your breakfast, chatting cordially with Jungkook about classes and teachers and how people had changed since junior high. For once, you felt like you were on your own personal emotional high and that there was nothing that could tear you down.

It was dumb to be so happy. There was still so much to be sad about, so much to worry and fret over. Yet, you found yourself clinging to the smallest sliver of happiness, the smallest bit of hope. It was better that way.

Your mother noticed your good mood, commenting about how happy she was that you and Jimin were back on good terms. He scoffed at that comment, which only you seemed to notice. Still, even the blatant rudeness wasn't affecting you. You woke up a new person. Indestructible.

You walked out of the house, laughing about something with Jungkook. You checked the time on your phone and noticed that you all were running early.

"Hey, you guys wanna take the long route today?" You had turned to your brothers. Jungkook just shrugged in his usual way but you felt Jimin's dagger-like eyes ripping through you.

"No, let's just go," he asserted, shoving past you, sending you stepping back a bit. Jungkook gave you a puzzled look, obviously confused by Jimin's crabby mood and you just sighed. It looked like you weren't going to be walking with Taehyung today.

You weren't afraid to admit it to yourself. You were disappointed that you weren't going to be able to walk with him. However, you weren't about to subject yourself to another fight with Jimin. You finally moved your feet to catch up with your brothers, making your way to school in a mostly awkward silence.

You made your way into the school building, parting ways. You were glad to get away from the tension because you were still feeling so incredibly, stupidly, giggly happy. You practically sprinted up to your best friend to share the news with her.

"Hey!" you chirped as you reached her at her locker. She simply looked forward, not flinching at your presence. "I have some interesting news~" you added, beginning to notice how unphased she was. It was unlike her to be this nonresponsive. It puzzled you.

After a few moments of silence, she finally turned your way, expecting you to go on.

"Well... last night you know who and I had to work on our project, and well..." you suddenly realized that maybe you shouldn't be telling her that he had broken down, that last night's happenings were way too personal for you to share with someone he didn't know. It felt like a breach of his privacy. You wanted him to trust you. You weren't about to break that as soon as you started to see signs of it.

"Well, what? You're hitched or something?" she replied. There was a certain coldness paired with the sarcasm in her tone. It was new to you. She had never spoken to you before in that manner.

"No... no... well... we just started texting, that's all," you stammered, put on edge by her unusual attitude.

"Wow, so interesting," she mocked. Your eyes narrowed as you stared at her intently.

"What has gotten into you?" you questioned.

She met your eyes. She was not looking at you like she wanted to be around you.

"Nothing," she said, closing her locker swiftly. "See you at lunch."

With that, she was gone, leaving you confused as to why she was acting like that toward you. What had you done? For once you thought things were going at least a little better in your life, but you were wrong.
