So, I felt like I never really gave people a full understanding on where this story takes place and the year in the story. So, for that reason, I dedicated this whole chapter to informing you readers on where this story takes place and the year it takes place.
Not What She Seems is supposed to take place in the year of 2800, or the very beginning of the 29th century. This doesn't mean that there're flying cars, self-tying shoelaces, etc. (did you get the Back to the Future reference?). This is because of, well, I'd really rather not have it like that, but instead have it similar to how it is now in 2018. Plus, it feels a bit further from fantasy. Actually, never mind, it doesn't change a thing about how fake this story will become. Skip fan-fiction, hello fantasy!
Anyways, sometimes I sneakily drop hints on the location of Not What She Seems. You'd notice it of you paid close attention, rather than reading it and not acknowledging it at all. I dropped hints when I was talking about money in some of the later chapters. Not What She Seems takes place in London, hence the currency of pound (£) and, yet to be used, pence (p). The main character, Yavara, and her friends live in Yaeman, a town in London (not a real life town though). Some features of London may not be accurate, but hey man, it's 2800, the 29th century. Things can change hehehe. Yep, that's the power of the future.
You guys are probably now just asking yourselves, "What the heck is the National District?". Lemme answer that for you. The National District is, well, a made-up district in London which is sort of like London's capital district, y'know, like how each state has a capital, except this is with districts. I know what you're thinking now, "Author, why not just call it Capital District then?", well, a nickname for the National District is Capital District, so really you can decide what you prefer to call it.
So, as mentioned in the story, there's other fighting schools in the district. Those other fighting schools hold fighting competitions, so does Yavara's school. This summer, the town they live in, Yaeman, is holding a fighting competition for all schools in the district. There'll be a competition within each school and the top four people will advance to the district competition. For instance, if you lose the semi-finals, it doesn't matter, you still advance to the National District competition. The only thing that you won't get if you lose the semi-finals is a trophy for the school competition. The top four will be a team and will go against all the other schools in the district to, maybe, advance into the semi-finals, then the finals. If you win a match in the district competition, your school gets a trophy that'll say something like "Yaeman's National District Competition Round I" or "Yaeman's National District Competition Round II" and so on. The whole National District has never had one, as far as the main character knows, just particular schools who chose to participate. The National Competition takes place during the summer.
I know another question you readers have is probably "Ok, nice, great for you author, but can you please sit down and tell me why there are dorm assignments at the end of the school year?". Well, that's because they prepare to have the dorms ready before summer break, so you're at least somewhat familiar with your roommate before summer break. They change dorms for the upcoming year on May 23, so you have exactly one week (unless you go home on weekends) to become familiar with your roommates. Anyways, I think that's all I need to tell you readers. Oh! Right! Not What She Seems' 30th chapter anniversary is coming up soon, in the next two chapters, since this is the 28th chapter. 30 chapters! Like, wow! 30 chapters this soon! It almost seems unreal! Anyways, really, I think that's all I have to inform you readers about and give background info on, see you guys later! Oh wait! Also, some of the characters speak French sometimes. Most of the time, I mean, if you want to fully understand the story, it'd be in your best bet to translate that. Sorry if I'm making you do too much work. Ok, really, I'm almost positive that's all. See you guys later!
