(Another heavily eating disorder mentioned chapter)
Emery
Thursday-1:20 p.m
I sat rigidly on the crooked brick planter, embracing the silence. As a light breeze came through, I found myself instinctively shifting to remain under the sun, trying to keep my freezing water warm.
In my lap was a small bag of the good ol' cheerios-the only food I packed. Anxiously I poked at them, moving them around the bag. You must know, one of my symptoms, according to psychiatrists, is my need to personally hands-on move my food.
But to many it looks like I'm playing with my food. But actually, the food is playing with me.
I debated eating the cheerios, I skipped breakfast this morning, and had a major test soon I repeated the mantra doctors told me to say: 30 calories worth of Cheerios (which are filled with nutrients) won't ruin my life.
30 calories, I scoffed to myself. Its ridiculous that I was spending my lunch, the most amazing socially ran period of the day, letting numbers roll through my mind like tumbleweeds.
I leaned back against the tree and shut my eyes. It was surprisingly quiet in this little lunch eating atrium. While it isn't a popular location--there is typically a group of girls who sit here.
But I found it odd that they weren't here yet...every day without fail they come a few minutes after the lunch bell. It was twenty minutes after the start of lunch.
However, I was pleased the air was not dipped with sassiness and conflict.
But it didn't last long.
I heard the shuffling of pumped sandals and the jingle of bangles. While unclear, I could hear their high pitch voices echo through the compact acres.
Their voices grew louder until I could finally here what they were saying.
I often tune them out, but today I needed a distraction, they My ears spiked as their story began. These stories typical stay out my sphere because who would want the goody-two-shoes to know the ruthless crimes the student committed.
"Oh, my gosh" one girl said, I think her name was Kallie. Despite always sitting on the oppisote side of the big oak tree, I don't think I've ever seen them.
And they haven't seen me, so that's fine.
They dusted the crunchy leaves from the brick bench before they sat.
Hardly taking a moment to breathe, Kallie began "The quarterback, Levi, he got so pissed at this guys and tackled him. It was badass."
Her voice dripped with amusement, and her tone signaled an oncoming story.
It took me no more than a second to conjure a picture of the bad-boy quarterback. I imagined his smug smirk and could faintly hear his raspy voice.
The sound of his annoyed yawning brought back the memory of our brief desk mate relationship.
I scoffed silently, rolling my eyes as I recalled the disastrous project from freshman year.
I haven't heard much about him recently, but, yet again, I hardly pay any attention anymore.
Adina, the other girl, snarkily giggled. "Levi has quite the personality, a bit of a jerk. And he's very hot."
I studied my memory of him, in my personal opinion, he was not as hot as everyone said.
Kallie's jewels in her hair jingled as she nodded vigorously.
"Ya, I tried to complement him a few weeks ago. But get this-" Kallie paused briefly, building up the inevitable terror of every teen story. "He shrugged me off and walked away." she paused again giving Adina a second to gasp.
Kallie continued, her pitch grew higher as her anger grew.
"He thinks he so much better than us, I mean, he practically said I was too ugly to even look at."
"What an ass" Adina sneered.
I haven't talked to Levi in years, but this story did not surprise me.
In Fact, I was offended by this quarterback! Walking away from a girl who was trying to compliment him is jerkish. As someone who has been called ugly--I found Levi's actions unacceptable.
But it got worse.
"He's not only a jerk but an adulterer. He's having an affair with a married woman" Adina drawled, stuffing the story.
"Really?" Kallie gasped but urged her friend to continue.
"Totally. A student saw him talking on the phone with this woman; he was saying how much he cares about her and that his parents won't be home that afternoon and if they could meet up. He said he needed her." Adina made mocking voices, exposing the disgust of this situation.
"Crazy" Kallie agreed.
Why were there so many idiotic people in this world? Wicked idiotic people like Levi.
