Arnold was right in his description of what was ahead. The land changed within the next couple of days. The grass know reached their knees instead of their ankles and the trees were still shorter than what they'd seen in the forest, but Moani who was the tallest of their group was able to stand almost straight up.

Nakira let out a sigh as they stopped for a rest when the sun got hot. "I am glad that the trees are finally tall enough to give us enough shelter."

Naknaki grunted as he flopped down next to his sister. "So am I. I am especially glad that there seems to be more water here."

"I wonder if that means that we are getting close." Bridged mused aloud. "I have no idea what the edge of the sun looks like, but changing of the land is a good sign."

"How do we gain their support?" Lenki asked from where he lounged next to Sunkie.

Arnold shook his head. "We have stories back home that tell of seeing aid, but most of them require a sacrifice or some sort of task being performed."

"What kind of task?"

"It depends on the story Naknaki."

Bridged drank sparingly of her water before she passed it to Arnold. "All we can do is get to our destination. I am hoping that the warriors we are looking for will give us a brief respite before we have to do something."

"I hope everything is going well back home." Nakira fidgeted with her hair. "I worry about Grandmother."

"She'll be fine." Naknaki reassured his sister. "She still has her council and no one will let any harm come to her."

"Looks like rain." Kiena pointed to the south.

Everyone turned to look in the direction that he pointed. Huge thunderheads were developing and they reached high into the sky. Bridged shaded her eyes and squinted as she looked at the clouds which were beginning to flicker with lightning. Bridged turned and clapped her hands.

Let me tell you the legend of the Thunderbirds."
