II
I had made it two steps out the door before feeling an arm around my waist, pulling me backwards. The shock of the quick movement caused me to drop the sword, and making me freeze in defeat.
"I see you two have met." Savanah stated, raising an eyebrow at my captor. "Now, let the girl go, Zenan. She's a guest in my house."
The man, Zenan, reluctantly dropped his arms and I immediately stepped a few steps away from him. I quickly eyed the sword, debating on whether to try and go for it, but Zenan caught on and picked it up off of the ground and secured it back on his waist.
I looked back and forth between them, then quickly bolted for the door again. I could hear Zenan curse before running after me. I sprinted through the trees, feeling my dress weigh me down and snag on the underbrush, but I continued on. My adrenaline rush slowly faded, my legs beginning to tire and my body beginning ache.
My head began spinning again, and I stumbled, catching myself on a tree. Looking around, I didn't see anyone, but I could hear footsteps in the distance. My lungs were burning, and I couldn't catch my breath. I tried running again, but I nearly collapsed. My head started pounding, and all I could do was drop to my knees, and brace myself against the tree.
I could see Zenan walk up, towering over me. He kneeled down to eye level, offering me a hand out.
"It's just your body adjusting to the atmosphere." He explained, helping me stand up. "This happened happened to a friend of mine. Headache, nausea, shortness of breath?"
I quietly nodded, rubbing my temples. Then, as quickly as it had come on, it was gone and I felt fine again.
"Are you ok to walk now?" He asked. I noticed I had been grabbing his arm for balance, and I quickly let go.
"I'm fine." I stated, beginning to walk in the direction that I had been running.
"You're going in the wrong direction."
"I know." I said calmly, continuing on. Zenan ran in front of me, and I just pushed past him.
"You're not going back are you." He realized, standing in front of me again, not letting me past him.
"Nope." I ducked under his arm and continued on.
He grabbed my arm, spinning me to face him. My heart was racing once again, the adrenaline running through my veins. I pulled my arm free, and began running again. I could hear him only steps behind me, but I kept running.
I suddenly felt myself being crushed as I was tackled. I began to protest before Zenan's hand clamped over my mouth. I struggled, trying to get him off of me, but he just shushed me, and looked past me. I craned my head to see a small camp through the trees.
I stopped struggling, and Zenan slowly lifted his hand off of my mouth and stood up, offering me a hand. I ignored it, standing up on my own, causing him to roll his eyes. I adjusted my dress, the back loosening and coming undone. I quickly tried to fix it, but he automatically came over and began tying it up. I froze, stiff until he was done; he had to have noticed.
"Savanah can heal you." He told me, dropping his hands. "You just need to come back so we can explain everything that is happening."
"I've had these scars for years." I said, rolling my shoulders, my back ached from being in corsets; the scars and burns imbedded into my skin. "My brother and I tried everything we could, but nothing's worked."
"A friend of mine got a large scar, running down his cheek in battle, and Savanah healed it. You can't tell he ever had a scar in the first place."
"I don't know.." I hesitated.
"Let us explain everything, and Savanah can heal you. After that, you can be on your way if that is what you wish." He looked down on me, his eyes dark as night. I slowly nodded, letting him lead the way back. The walk was silent, other than the rustle of the forest.
"Madlynn, dear, I'm sorry about our unorthodox way of meeting, but I'm sure you know as well as we do that you shouldn't be in Eclarth." Savanah stated once we returned, sitting down in a small wooden chair, motioning us to do the same. Zenan quickly sat down on a small hay sack, and I hesitantly sat down in another chair.
Eclarth? My heart dropped at the affirmation that I was no longer on Earth anymore. Savanah gave me a sympathetic smile, probably sensing my discomfort.
"Usually, situations like this don't happen; hence our more unorthodox approach. But when they have, the humans have been stuck here for the rest of their lives. To our knowledge, there isn't any way to get back." Zenan, continued. My breath hitched. Was I going to be stuck here forever?
