(Zenan is 36, Madlynn is 35, Blake is 38, Lucas is 32, and Savanah is 45. Hayden is only 15, and Kelan is 1! JUST A REMINDER, THIS IS SET FARTHER IN THE FUTURE, STILL ON ZENAN'S PLANET!!)
Chapter 1: Earthquake
"Mom? What was that?" I asked, walking into the kitchen where my mother was feeding my baby brother, Kelan. I had inherited her deep red hair, and had my father's black eyes.
"It's probably just a storm. Don't worry about it." She looked outside to check. "It's only a little after noon, I think you'll be fine."
"Okay." I turned to go back to my room. Suddenly everything started to shake.
"Hayden, get under a doorway!" My mother yelled. I grabbed onto the archway exiting the kitchen and saw her in the pantry door, cradling Kelan in her arms. He obviously was scared, so he started crying. I just hoped dad was ok.
Our shadow spirit wolf, Mayshu was shimmering in a corner. Ganter, mom's Darkling, was above the house, screaching and flying. I had a feeling this wasn't normal.
*•*•*
"Everyone okay?" My uncle Blake barged in the door a few hours after it had all settled down. Mom and I had been siting nervously on the couch waiting for dad to come back home. Mayshu was laying in my lap and barely lifted an ear when my loud uncle practically yelled in his enterence.
"We're all fine. Has Zenan contacted you yet? He was working when it happened and we haven't heard from him yet." My mother asked her brother hopefully.
"Nothing yet. But I ran into Luke and he set off with Ganter. They should be able to find him." He frowned. I guess he thought Dad was here with us. Lucas was my dad's brother.
"Could this have had anything to do with Rhiann and everything?" My mom asked quietly, looking nervous.
"I'm not sure. But she disappeared. I found out the real girl actually did die and the one we met wasn't her." Uncle Blake glanced at be then looked at my mom. "Does she know?"
"Not the whole story." My mom sighed. "Do you think she's ready?"
"Nows a good a time as any." Uncle Blake told her. "Does she know the basic plot between you and Zenan?"
"I'm confused." I butted in. "Why are you talking like I'm not here?"
"I see she got that from you." Uncle Blake grinned at us. "But do you want to start or should I."
"I will." My mother then turned to me, her emerald eyes gleaming as she began to open up about her past. "About eighteen or so years ago I woke up in a forest. I couldn't remember anything. Ganter came over, curious about me and that freaked me out until I realized he was being friendly."
"That's when Zenan came in." Uncle Blake laughed. "They were so awkward together. You could cut the tenseness with a knif-"
"Your off topic." My mother scolded her brother then turned to me again. "Zenan came over and taught me to ride him. He took me to Savanah where the Nightlings attacked. I was shot by a poison arrow and passed out. When I woke up again, I was slowly being paralyzed. Savanah healed me, but my memories were gone so it was like it never happened."
"How are you telling me this then? Did you remember agin?" I blurted. Uncle Blake just laughed.
"She gets that from Zenan." He chuckled, earning a elbow to the stomach from my mother.
"Stop interrupting! Now, to answer your question, I don't remember any of that. That's just off of what they told me." My mother explained. She wasn't one to forget anything, so it was weird to think of her loosing so much of her memories. "Anyways, I was put back where I was found and they took me back again, this time with a little complication with Zenan but no Nightlings."
