I
I opened my eyes, blinking a few times as they adjusted to the bright white sunlight. I lifted my arms to shield my eyes from the sun, taking in my surroundings. I was definitely not home. I was laying in a dense forest clearing with my back against a tree, not in the field behind the house.
I slowly sat up, looking around me, trying to find my bow. When I was sure it wasn't with me, I frowned.
I began dusting myself off; dirt leaves, and twigs all over me and in my hair which was now a tangled mess. I went ahead and took it down before feeling something warm and sticky in my hair. Bringing my hand to my face I saw blood. I must have hit my head on something.
"Hello? Is anyone out there?" I asked, standing up. My head began swimming and I had to turn around to brace myself against the tree I had been under. As soon as my vision cleared I slowly turned back toward the mouth of the clearing. "Hello?"
I could hear a faint whooshing sound in the distance slowly getting louder. Whatever or whoever was making it, was getting closer. After a moment, it stopped, a loud thump following. It had landed.
I backed myself up to the trunk of the tree still dizzy. My eyes followed the huge, deep purples ones that had appeared, glowing in the forest. Then the creature stepped out of the shadows revealing its gargantuan size.
It was a massive creature; its head alone was larger than me. It had a large crowned head, and spikes trailing down its neck and back, leading to the tip of its tail. It's legs were as thick as tree trunks and its feet had claws roughly the size of my arm. The black creature was covered in scales, and its face had horns crowning its head.
I took a deep breath, trying to hold in my scream as the beast cocked its head, opening its mouth to reveal several rows of razor sharp teeth. I squeezed my eyes shut as it brought its head closer. I could feel his hot breath on my face as he breathed. Suddenly it snorted, stepped back toward the middle of the clearing, screeched loudly, and pounded its feet.
My eyes flew open in alarm, its screeching becoming a panic.
"Hey!" I yelled at it, catching its attention quickly. It's eyes widened as it stared at me, clear that it was terrified. "It's okay, shhh, I won't hurt you." I said as calmly as I could, sticking out my arm so it could sniff me again.
When it didn't make a move, I took a step toward it and it flinched.
"It's okay, it's okay." When I finally reached it, I put my hand above its nostril so he could smell me, before slowly rubbing its nose. It's breathing quickened, but it seemed calmer. A few minutes later, it laid down, resting its head on the hard ground. I could still see nervousness in its eyes but I could tell it wasn't afraid anymore. I soothed,"See, you're fine."
"I see you've made a friend." A male voice called from behind me. I slowly turned around, head still swimming. I could see a figure in the shadows but I couldn't see who it was. The beast shuttered, obviously afraid again so I reached out my hand and began petting it again.
"Who are you." I asked, my voice shaking a little. I wouldn't take my eyes off of the figure.
"Never mind that, are you feeling alright? Woozy, dizzy, nauseous?"
"Why?" I asked warily. How did he know? Was it his fault my head is bleeding? I slowly stepped back into the creature, knowing it could sense my fear and hoping it would stay with me like I did with it.
"Your body was in a state of matter that shouldn't be possible, and it takes a while for it to readjust." He stated matter of factly. "So you may be feeling weird for a few days."
"How would you know." My eyes widened in fear, the cover I was trying falling.
"It's happened to a friend of mine. He was brought here like you were."
"Here?"
"Eclarth, Parenthia." He stated. My eyes widened in confusion. Where was that? "You're on a different planet."
"No, that can't be. I was just home." I looked around once again, everything looking vaguely like Earth. Suddenly all of the differences stood out; the grass was long, tinted almost blue, the sky was lit up by two orbs of light instead of one, and the trees were all knotted and swirling, leaves large and tinted with the same blue as the grass. I could feel my breathing quicken as I realized I wasn't anywhere near home.
"Your body was instantaneously transported from Earth to Parenthia. That's why your body is off; that shouldn't be possible."
"Why me?" I could feel my eyes showing my panic, and the tears welling up. What if I couldn't get back home?
"We don't know." He stated sadly, obvious to my panic though choosing to ignore, assuming to keep it from rising.
"We? Who are you anyways. You never answered me." I squeaked, mind racing with the newfound information.
"I just need you to keep in mind that I'm not human." He started, deathly calm still in the protection of the shadows. I could both see and hear him gulp, nervously. I stepped back into the beast trying to control my breathing.
