At first sight

Chapter 8

On a huge dining table, the Hallsworth family have their two weekly family dinner, Carl and Jerry ate their food in silence, they had expected the topic to drop in less than three minutes from now.

Their parents were chatting happily with their beloved daughter, their face plastered with a huge wide smile. When they were done catching up, they turned to the boys. Mama Hallsworth observed her both boys, noticing Jerry's fidgety hands, she targets him first.

"Jerry, you are 25 aren't you. When are you going to get a serious girlfriend? "

Eva snickered upon the question and Carl's tensed shoulders relaxed.

"Mom, I am only 25. I am not planning on getting a serious girlfriend. "

Jerry threw his hands up in frustration.

Then an idea came to him... "you can expect one from Carl soon though. "

Everyone else other than Jerry and Carl chocked onto their food and starts coughing. Their expression changed from shocked to excited, then doubtful.

Father Hallsworth was the first to recover and quickly shoot Carl with bullets of questions, "Who is she? How did you meet her? How's the progress? When can we meet her. Most importantly, why her? "

Mama Hallsworth who was still holding on to her throat, nodded frantically.

"Wait, it's Carl, I think you should lower down your expectation dad. Carl, tell us honestly, is your special person a.. a... guy? "

Jerry bursted into laughter as he watched his sister asked that question with an extremely serious face. Papa Hallsworth rubbed his temples as he realised that it is indeed possible for that to happen. Mama Hallsworth who was yet to recover from her choking, face started to turn blue.

As she panicked, Carl stood up calmly and walked behind his mum in order to perform heimlich maneuver. The food was successfully dislodged and they both returned to the table.

"Please tell us the truth Carl..." Mama Hallsworth asked with her eyes filed with tears. She didn't even noticed that the rest were not even aware of her near death episode.

Jerry covered his mouth to stop himself from laughing. He knew that that was as much as he could tell, one more word and he would die in brother's hands. He watched his brother, unsure if he is ready for Carl's reply.

"Female. May I excuse myself. " Carl stood up and walked to the garage, while the rest who remained on their seats let out their breathe.

Mama Hallsworth immediately hugged papa Hallsworth and cried out loud, "It's a girl honey, it's a girl. "

Of course,  Jerry sneakily ran off before they all return to their senses and interrogate him. 

"Well,  I'd guess the accident he had sparked his sexuality." Eva muttered to herself quietly to herself without blinking.
