"So lemme get this straight," Spot said looking at Race, "Mom died, Dad became abusive, sister died, and you ran away?"
"Yes." Race said a little annoyed,
"Don't catch an attitude with me mister, it's not my sister who's dating you." Spot fires back crossing his arms,
"Yeah, but she's mine so I recommend keepin your mouth shut about her." Race said getting into Spot's face,
"Back off Higgins or I SWEAR I'll..." Spot started to yell but he took a deep breath before saying, "I'm headin back to the lodgin house, go back to Manhattan. I'll catch ya later." He said walking away. Race watched him leave and stood there for a while. He was furious at Spot for not controlling his temper for one serious conversation. Race was about to turn away when he heard someone scream, "RACE HELP! ITS YOUR DA...." It was Spot.
Race bolted around the corner to have him jerked back and a hand covering his mouth he tried to scream but the noise was muffled by the gloved hand, "Shut up kid." The man said shoving him on the ground and binding his hands and feet together with rope, "Now. Are you going to come with us or let your little homo here suffer?" The man asked hauling Race up so that he was standing. His eyes began to water as he watched Spot look up at him with pleading eyes, his hands were held back by two of his father's goons, a handkerchief was tied around his mouth and there was a knife to his neck. Race tried to say, "Let him go!" But it came out as, "Mmm hmm hm!" He breathes a sigh of relief as the one goon dropped the knife and untied Spot, "Red." The goon that was holding Race said, causing the others to nod and pick up Spot by his neck. One of them slammed Spot into the wall a few times as the other watched smirking. After a few slams, Spot began coughing blood, "Had enough Pansy?" The goon asked spitting in his face, "Let him go." Spot said through clenched teeth and and gasps for air, "Nah." The man said punching Spot in the gut. Now Spot began to see stars and black, "Now for you." The man said dropping Spot to the ground. Spot began coughing blood and gasping for air.
The man walked over to Race and began to punch him in the face and stomach repeatedly until Race fell to his knees. The man then proceeded to kick him in the face and gut until Race too was coughing blood, "Let's go." The man said and the other walked out of the alley back to the abandoned building.
Race looked over at Spot, he was unconscious, lying in a pool of blood, Race tried to stand up, but ended up crawling slowly to Spot's side. He gently rolled him over so that his head was in Race's lap, "Spot?" He asked tears flooding his vision, "Spot please wake up." He said placing a hand on his cheek gently, "It's me. Race. Please." He begged while the burning tears ran down his cheeks. Spot didn't move for a while. Race sat there quietly sobbing, looking at Spot, hoping for a spark of life to ignite.
After what seemed like forever, Spot's chest began to slowly move up and down, his eyes slowly flickering open, "Spot. It's me." Race said lifting him up a little higher so that he could wrap his arms around Spot as he supported his back with his knee, "Race." Spot squeaked out, "Yes baby?" Race asked looking into his eyes, "I'm sorry." He said as he began to close his eyes agin, "No, no, no, Spot stay with me." Race said gently shaking the lifeless boy, "Please, I need you." He began to cry again, "Spot I can't live without you. Please don't leave me. I love you." Race broke down blabbering about how much he cared about Spot and how this was all his fault, "I'm so sorry baby. Please Spot." He kept pleading while still receiving no response.
They sat there a little more, Race still whispering words of love and sorrow as Spot laid in his arms. Then finally, Spot opened his eyes again, "T...take me back to M...Manhattan with ya. P...Please." He stuttered shaking, "Okay. Hang in there for me okay?"
Spot nodded and wrapped his arms around Race's neck, "I love you so much Higgins. Please, forgive me." He said crying, "No this is my fault. Please, you did nothing wrong." The boys kept going in circles claiming the blame until Spot yawned and Race said, "Let's get you home." He gently picked up bridal style, Spot winced in pain and let out a whimper, "Sorry." Race said as he started to walk to Manhattan quickly, but carefully. Before they got out of the alley, Race placed a gentle kiss on Spot's forehead, "I love ya so much. I promise that I'll make ya heal fast and get ya back here." Race then started to run back to his old turf with fear, pain, and regrets filling his mind.
