richie hopped onto the bus and quickly made his way down the aisle to his precious eddie. he pulled eddie into a head lock and ruffled his soft curls. "get off of me richie!" eddie retorted as he tried to push the other boy away. "why didn't you call me all weekend? I was worried about you! I didn't wanna call because usually your mom answers and then we get caught up in a conversation-whatever" richie ranted as he released his secret admirer from his friendly gesture. "I was still dealing with stuff..." eddie replied softly. "did you figure your stuff out? I wanna help eds, I hate to see you like this." richie responded pinching eddie's cheek. eddie blushed madly and started to smile, but quickly remember that he had to pretend to hate this. he shoved richie's rough hands away from his face, wishing that it had lasted forever. "what's up with the gloves eds? it's like eighty degrees out." richie probed pulling eddie's dainty hands from his lap to examine them. "I-uh..." eddie stuttered, trying to throw together an excuse. "did you do something to your hands?" richie started, begining to pull the glove off. the smaller boy went to stop him, but was too late. eddie went into a state of panic and embarrassment as he covered his freshly painted nails from richie. "I understand if you don't want to talk anymore..." eddie commented softly as he put his glove back on. "eds, I told you, you can tell me anything..." richie started quite upset, but not as upset as eddie of course. "well I just figured my stuff out this weekend, that's why I didn't call..."
richie swallowed hard as he realized what had happened. how could he ever make this up? could he make this up? his best friend...all this time...was struggling with something this big. "eddie, you're my best friend, of course I'll still talk to you, there's nothing in this world that can tear our friendship apart."eddie wanted to cry, he wanted to crawl up into a ball and never see the light of day again. eddie wanted to be more than best friends, way more than best friends. but at least richie accepted him...that was a start. "eds are you okay?" richie wondered as he watched silent tears stream down eddie's soft cheeks. "eds?" but eddie just stayed quiet, he didn't bother to look at richie, and tried not to think of him either. how can someone that you love the most, hurt you the most? eddie thought, shutting the world around him out.
eddie went about his day emotionless. he wanted to tell richie how he felt, how much he loved and admired him. he wanted richie to feel the same, but this wasn't a little romance book, and not everything was going fall into place coincidentally. eddie hadn't cried, except for the few tears on the bus, he hadn't talked to anyone, and he hadn't felt anything. he just had this aching pain in his sweet heart. the losers came up to him and would ask him what had him in this state, but he stayed silent. he wore an emotionless expression, because he had no emotion to express.
"richie what did you do?" bev whisper yelled in fury. "I said we were best friends and nothing in the world could break our bond... I accepted him...I don't know what I did, but I feel...awful." richie explained swallowing hard and running his fingers through his hair. "oh richie...oh you sweet summer child...you just have no idea do you?" bev questioned vaguely. "I do..." "oh, I don't think you do." bev remarked raising an eyebrow. "bev he's gay, I don't think there's much more to it." bev looked at richie and realized how ignorant he was, and just couldn't help but laugh. she laughed and laughed until her stomach hurt. "bev, I don't think this is funny.." richie voiced, kissing his teeth in annoyance. "oh richie, can't you see it? the way he looks at you, the way he gets nervous when you hug him, and how he goes to you for warmth and protection...are you really that ignorant?" bev questioned dumbfounded. richie gave her a look of offense and confusion, he opened his mouth to argue, but decided other wise. he pressed his lips together in deep thought, and tried to put the pieces together in his brain. "wait...are you sayin... eddie likes..." richie spoke. he pointed to himself in substitution for finishing his sentence. "good luck." is all bev said before she entered her next class.
