During the school day there was nothing but old people at the mall. Candice and her mom paused at a pretzel stand. The smell of the dough was giving Candice hunger pangs.
"So, tell me more about your friends " her mom asked. They both grabbed samples and  began walking again.
"Well, Olivia, she's kind of naive but she's nice. Monse is like my little sister, and the guys are like my little bro's," Candice said popping the pretzel nugget in her mouth. To her disappointment it was cold.
"And Olivia is the one who has a birthday party coming up?" Her mom asked. Candice smiled.
"Yeah, I need to get her a gift," Candace said. She searched the stores until she came across a Forever 21.
"Ok well, I'm going to rest for a little while you go look for the gift," her mom said plopping down into one of the message chairs. Candice smiled to herself. Grabbing the card from her mother she waltzed in. She instantly walked over to a small purse. It screamed Olivia with its blush color and black ribbon in the middle. It seemed like a solid gift. She tucked the purse under her arm and continued to look around the store until her phone buzzed.

Ruby: You and Jamal have both failed to show up for rehearsal. I don't have to tell you guys how important this is to Olivia, with her being away from her family. So, get you both better have a good excuse and get your asses up hear!

Candice: You know you spelled here "hear"?

Ruby: you know what I meant...just hurry up and come to my place

Candice chuckled to herself.
"Find everything alright?" The store associate asked from behind causing Candice to jump. Candice turned around and met a skeptical looking woman.
"Yes, thank you," She said and walked away to the phone cases. The woman was right behind her straightening up clothes and trying to rearrange the products. Candice slowly walked over to the sunglasses and the woman followed her there too.
"Is there a problem?" Candice snapped whipping around. The woman smiled and shook her head.
"Only if you walk out the door," she said cheerfully. Candice turned around slowly and raised an eyebrow.
"Are you insinuating that I would steal?" She asked.
"Your people—."
"Oh bitch please," Candice dropped the purse on the ground and stormed out. Your people, what the fuck? She was so angry storming out of the store she ran right into someone's back. Santos. Oscar turned around and so did some of his boys. Candice tensed up, balling her fists. Her heart pounded in her chest out of anger. She wanted to hug him but she also wanted yell at him for not helping her the other day.
"Wassup, Candice?" There was a young guy amongst them. She recognized him from one of her classes as Daniel Rodriguez. Oscar peered down at her with dark eyes. She look over at Daniel.
"Hey," She said. Oscar looked back at Daniel and when he turned back around Candice snuffed him. Oscar reeled back in shock and Candice was already half way down the escalator. She raced down pushing past elderly people muttering a low "I'm sorry." Behind her, Oscar right on her heels. She tripped stepping off and then ran out the revolving doors. She ran all the way to the back of the mall and hid behind a dumpster. The smell of old food and ass was horrible but she ignored watching Oscar run by. When the coast was clear she ducked out.  Her phone buzzed.

Ruby: please tell me you're on your way?

Candice: I'm getting Olivia a gift OK? I'll be there.

Candice sent the message and sighed. A massive hand clamped down over her mouth and an arm wrapped around her waist and pulled her back. She was dragged back behind the dumpster and pinned against the wall.
"What the hell was that?" Oscar said staring her down. Candice scoffed and pushed him away.
"You don't know...I'm shocked," she said rolling her eyes. Oscar backed up and looked around wildly.
"I don't know," he said frustrated, "you embarrassed me in front of my homes Candice...that was out of line."
"You didn't help me at the football game," she finally shouted. Oscar paused for a brief moment and chuckled to himself.
"What's so damn funny?" She asked. Oscar walked closer to her and Candice went to run but he slammed his hand on the wall on both sides of her face. He lingered in front of her his lips trailing across her lips, down her cheek, and finally to her ear.
"I killed him."
