****WARNING THIS CHAPTER CONTAINS VIOLENCE AND A LOT OF OFFENSIVE LANGUAGE****

"How do I look?" Monse asked Candice. Candice smiled smoothing out a loose curl.  Music boomed from the backyard. It was the other portion of the party that Ruby had so eloquently and strategically executed. Candice checked her phone and there was still no text back from Latrelle. Their mom had been worried sick and as a stress reliever invited Craig to live with her again. People danced on the floor and Candice bobbed her head. It looked as though everyone was having a good time. A slow dance transitioned and everyone coupled up. Candice awkwardly scooted away from the dance floor and watched her friends from afar. Suddenly, her phone vibrated in her hands.

Latrelle: Why do you keep texting me?

Candice: Mom wants to know where you are.

Latrelle: I'm on my way to a party

Candice: Well, just be safe and call mom when you have the chance

Latrelle: Ard...

Candice put her phone in her bra and walked over to the refreshments. She let her mind wander to the other day with her encounter with Oscar. The fact that he killed the guy that was messing with her said a lot. She reached for the beer and when she caught a look from Ruby's grandmother she put it down. She turned back to her friends. They had their whole live's to figure out what they wanted to do. Meanwhile, she was at the cusp of breaching adulthood and still didn't know what she wanted to go to college for. Cesar and Monse giggled. Ruby stop what he was doing and looked over to his right. Candice couldn't see what he was staring at but whatever it was made him go pale. It all happened so fast.

"CESAR!" Ruby yelled and a shot pierced through the music and everyone screamed. Candice ran over to them and looked. The guy in the hood took off running. Candice took off after him. Screams and cries echoed behind her. Whoever they were moved fast. They tossed the gun into the bushes as they ran away. Their hood fell off and she recognized the braids.

"Latrelle?" she yelled. He turned around and looked at her.

"What the hell are you doing Candice?"

"No, what are you doing?" she snapped. She was in a state of shock and disbelief. Her little brother was the one who pulled the trigger and attempted a shoot out out at the party.

"Get that motherfucker!" someone yelled from behind them. Latrelle took off running down an alley and Candice followed behind. Everything in her body was telling her to turn around and go back to the party. Her mind told her to follow after her brother to get answers. When Latrelle turned to go out of the alleyway he was stopped by a group of Prophets. The people behind them pulled out their guns.

"If it ain't them bitch ass Prophets," one of them said. Candice turned around and noticed that they were Santos. One of them being Oscar.

"Candice, what the fuck are you doing man?" he asked confused. Latrelle raised an eyebrow.

"You know him?" Latrelle asked feeling betrayed. The Prophets behind them chuckled.

"Go home now," Candice whispered to Latrelle. Oscar looked between the two of them and something clicked.

"This that mother fucker that killed our baby," Oscar shouted. Candice backed away from her brother and then at Oscar.

"No, that ain't true," she said. Latrelle looked between the two of them.

"What the fuck is he talking about Candice? A baby? You ain't never had no baby, you barely left the house," Latrelle said confused. Candice shook her head at Oscar and he pulled out a gun.

"Bullshit! I remember clearly, the day I told you I was taking our son to the doctors?" Oscar said. Candice remembered and nodded her head.

"It must have been his initiation day and his target was me but he couldn't shoot right...shot my baby in his chest," Oscar said. His breathing was hard and his voice cracked. Latrelle looked at Candice and raised his hands.

"I didn't know...Candice I didn't know," he cried. A prophet stepped up from the side.

"So this your sister, who slept with a motherfucking Santo?" he asked.

"He's your brother?" Oscar yelled even more agitated.

"Yeah," Candice said lowly. The Prophet smirked and pulled out his gun.

"Well I'm going to do us all a  favor," he turned his gun on Candice, "Guilty by association bitch," the Prophet pulled the trigger and Candice fell back. Her body slammed onto the pavement. Her chest burned and it felt like bubbles were popping in her chest. The only thing she could see was the blurred bodies that hopped over her. Her eyes watered as she smelled the gun powder and heard the shouting around her. Was this her purpose in life? Was this how it all ended? Would she be able to be with her son?
