Two years later
Candice P.O.V

"Be back before 9," Craig snapped. My mom sat on the couch reading a book. I rolled my eyes and shrugged my backpack onto my shoulder. Latrelle hasn't been home since only God knows when. Last week my mom finally decided to take me back in. Its been two years since I've seen them and to be honest I was perfectly fine. I exited the house and started my trek to my grandmothers house. Before school I walk to my grandmothers to see my baby before he goes off to day care.
"Grandma?" I said peeking through the dark screen door. Behind the net I could see her blue floral dress dusting the floor as she came to the door.
"Mommy!" Elijah cried. His shoes slapped the floors and his small body hit the net. His curly jet black hair sat in a ponytail on top of his head. My grandmother always said that Elijah looked more like Oscar than me. My grandmother opened the door and Elijah ran to my legs.
"Hola mommy!" Elijah said as I picked him up. He gave me one of his toothy grins exposing his one dimple in his right cheek.
"Daddy taught you that?" I asked and Elijah nodded his head. I walked inside and put him down.
"Daddy hasn't been here in a while," my grandmother whispered in my ear. I raised my eyebrow and sat down on her plastic covered couch. Me and Oscar hasn't spoke in about three weeks but I would expect him to come and see our son. I looked at Elijah who was twirling around the room.
"Well, Daddy is going to pick you up today and take you to the doctor," I smiled. Elijah galloped into the kitchen.
"How are you doing baby?" Grandma asked. I shrugged my shoulders. Life was life taken with a grain of salt.
"I'm managing," I said. Quickly I pulled out my phone.
Me: you have to take Eli to the doctors today. His appointment is at 2:45
Oscar: I got things to do
Me: I know you're not doing shit Oscar
Oscar: So taking care of my brother is not doing shit? Wooooow
Me: I'm not saying that... I'm just saying our son needs to be taken to the doctors and I can't do it so you will have to. The end.
Oscar: I can't. Why can't you take him?
Me: I have school...
Oscar: ...just take him after
Me: I CANT THAT'S WHAT I'M TRYING TO TELL YOU!

I took in a deep breath.

Oscar: aight bruh stop texting me.
Me: stop being a bum

I turned my phone off and looked at the clock. Twenty minutes had already gone by.
"Eli?" I yelled. Eli was sitting on the steps. He ran over to me and hopped into my lap.
"Mommy I no want to go with daddy," he said seriously. He looked at me with a frown.
"Why not?" I asked rubbing his back. Eli didn't say anything but twirled his necklace in his small hands. I took my necklace out. It had the initials C.E.O.
"You want to know why your name is in the middle?" I asked.
"Yes."
"Because no matter what we will both always be with you right?" He shook his head.
"Well, trust Daddy ok? Afterwards I can pick you up and take you to go get ice cream?" I said. Eli's eyes lit up.
"Yes!"
"Alright? I love you," I said giving him a big hug. He hugged me back and I put my ear to his chest. His little heart beat reminded me that if a birds.
"Love you Mommy," he said kissing my cheek. I ruffled his hair and blew my grandmother a kiss.

It happened while I was in chemistry. All day, since I got to school, my chest had been hurting. It was a strange feeling that wouldn't shake and then I could smell the shampoo I use to was Elijah's hair with. My phone vibrated.
Oscar: Candice I need you!
I rolled my eyes and went to put my phone away when someone coughed under their breath. I looked up and Mr. Burns stood with his hands on his hips.
"You know the rule Candice," he said with his hand out. I smacked my phone into the palm of his hand and cursed under my breath. At least, I could get it at the end of the day. I turned back to the board when a sharp pain made me yelp and clutch the front of my shirt. Something wasn't right. I stood up, gathered my things, and walked out. In the back of my head something was telling me to call Oscar but what could he want?
I walked out of the building and headed towards Oscar's house. His house was only a few blocks away. As I was walking a police car zoomed by and another one then an ambulance. My heart beat quickened as they turned down Oscar's street. Oh no. My walk became a fast jog and I prayed that they had just zoomed to another house. When I turned down the street, they were surrounding the front of his house. Then I noticed my grandmothers blue dress.
"Elijah!" She screamed out. I took off. Three white police officers were preparing to stop me but I rammed right through them. Blood was everywhere. Oscar's car door was open but no one was inside.
"Candice," my grandmother called. She was by the ambulance.
"No," I moaned as I walked up. Tears welled up in my eyes and I saw Oscar with blood all over his shirt. He looked up and his face was beet red.
"Baby..." He said.
"Where's Elijah?" I yelled. He shook his head and cried. Wheels of a cart sounded from behind me. Two men were putting a gurney into a truck.
"Wait!" I yelled my hands shook and I prayed I prayed that my baby wasn't in there. I unzipped the bag and felt my soul tear from my body. It was like I was floating above myself watching me scream, yell, and fall out. I watched Oscar hop out the ambulance to try and comfort me but I punched him. I cursed the world, myself, and even God because my two year old son was  dead.

A/N: This is the last past update. After this Oscar was locked up a few weeks later. Candice made herself block out this part of her life.
