"You need to find another way baby...I don't want to come home again and find your ass tore up on my front porch," Candice's grandmother said. Candice laid in bed sewn up and resting an ice pack on her cheek.

"I know...I was being stupid and walked down the wrong street. Some of Craig's boys saw me and their girls jumped me. I ran. Next thing I know I'm running, hiding in bushes, and on the porch," Candice sighed. Her grandmother patted her leg and stood up. She was a small woman with long grey hair, pulled into a low bun, tortoise shell glasses, and a brown dress. Today must have been a special day because she wore her bright red lipstick and painted her nails red.

"I'm going to work baby, I'll be back around 9," her grandmother said. Candice's heart skipped a beat at the thought of being alone. She knew it was irrational being as though no one  else knew she lived here except her grandmother.

"Could you call up the school and tell them I'm sick with the flu or something?" Candice asked. Her grandmother nodded her head and walked out the door. Candice put the ice pack aside and stared up at the wall. Part of her still felt the searing pain of the bullet in her abdomen. Granted, the bullet was lodged in her back and wasn't able to be retrieved. The other part of her wondered if this is how her son felt or if this is how Ruby felt, or how anyone felt when they got shot. She wiped away the tears and turned over in the bed. On the nightstand her phone was blowing up.

Monse: Please text me back...that's the only way we'll know that you aren't dead and if you're dead I'll kill you!

Jasmine: Heeeeey girl, just checking in.

Oscar: Baby

Candice leaned up in bed and immediately unlocked her phone and dialed Oscar's phone. It rung twice before he answered. Candice relaxed at hearing his breathing on the other end of the phone. She listened for a little longer before a sob broke through. Oscar sighed.

"I can't talk right now," he said coldly. There was music, laughter, and overall noise in the background. Candice clutched the phone close to her ear.

"I miss you," she cried. Oscar sighed but cleared his throat.

"Don't call my phone no more." Oscar hung up. Candice blinked away the tears and lowered her phone to her lap.

Oscar: Where are you now?

Me:  I can't tell you

Oscar: You can't come outside either to meet me...I need to see you.

Me: You have to promise me you won't be followed or tell... people don't take to kindly to who I am affiliated with now a days.

Oscar: Why would I sell you out?

Candice let out a shaky breath.

Me: I'm back at my grandmothers house.

Candice put her phone on the nightstand and hid under the covers and went to sleep. When she woke up the door bell was ringing. She leaned up and winced getting out of the bed. It was dark out and barely any lights on in the house so she knew it was her grandmother.

"I tell that lady time and time again to take her keys with her," Candice walked to the living room and to the door. When she swung the door open she jumped. There was a pizza man instead of her grandmother.

"I-I didn't order a pizza, sir," she stammered. She was about to close the door when it was pushed back open. The man looked up and she recognized the tear drop tattoo on his cheek.

"Fuck this damn pizza baby," Oscar slammed the door shut behind me as he threw the empty box on the floor. Candice wrapped her arms around him and he backed her up against the wall. He didn't kiss her, but held the side of her face with his hand.

"I thought I would lose you and I couldn't bare to lose you Candice," he said before hugging her tightly. Candice cried into his chest and took in his smell of charcoal. Candice laughed and pulled away.

"Were you cooking something or burning something?" she laughed. Oscar pecked her lips.

"You know I don't burn nothing mama," he laughed and released her. Candice chuckled and let the feeling of relief wash over her.

"You're not mad at me?" she asked.

"For what?" He asked crossing his arms. Oscar leaned on the couch and looked at her with his dark brown eyes.

"Who I am, in relation to your brother, and Latrelle...my brother," Candice bit the end of her sentence early and looked down.

"I don't give a damn about your relationship to my brother...he's dead to me," Oscar said. Candice raised her eyebrow.

"I saw him the other day," she said.

"You went outside?"

"I made a mistake...and so did your brother. Listen Oscar, we all make mistakes and he's a kid he shouldn't be penalized--"

"He's dead to me Candice don't ruin the mood,"

"Well, then I should be dead to you too, right?" she snapped. Oscar got up and walked up to Candice. She looked away as he leaned down to her ear. She felt bad at how his breath on her neck aroused her.

"You didn't forget to kill someone, which ultimately brought the death to one of your friends and harm to the other," Oscar snapped. Candice pushed him off of her and crossed her arms.

"I might not agree with everything that my brother does nor know what he does on a day to day basis, but do you realize you're telling me that you told Cesar to kill Latrelle?" Candice yelled.

"He killed Elijah. Baby, does it really matter," Oscar said. Candice held up her hand to stop his ranting, Oscar sucked his teeth and backed up.

"Don't bring Elijah into this...Don't you dare!" Candice yelled. In her mind Oscar had a point but morally she still felt obligated to protect her brother. Latrelle didn't mean to kill Elijah, he was going after Oscar. Candice leaned on the small table by the wall as she felt the room spinning. Oscar caught her and held her close to him.

"I need to lay down," she said.

Oscar carried her all the way to her room which was the guest room in her grandmothers house. Candice winced as Oscar laid her on the bed gently.

"Damn, I need to change my gauze," Candice muttered. She leaned up to change it and Oscar pushed her back down gently.

"I'll do it." Oscar walked out of the room and into the bathroom. He came back in a few minutes later wiping his hands with a small towel.

"Thank you," she said. Oscar lifted up her shirt and bit his tongue. She almost bled through the gauze. He changed it quickly gently wiping it with an alcohol pad. Candice winced.

"Sorry baby," he taped the gauze down and then traced the outline. He dragged his finger below her belly button. Candice's eyes watered in anticipation and her heart began to speed up.

"You hungry baby?" Candice teased. Oscar looked up at her seriously.

"Nah...but I can eat," He gently tugged down her sweatpants to her ankles. Biting the hem of her underwear he pulled them down exposing her. Candice opened her legs instinctively as Oscar went down on her. She placed her hand on the back of his head as she leaned her head back. There was thumping coming up the steps. Oscar leaned up from her.

"Candice, you alright baby?" her grandmother called. Candice cursed and Oscar licked her slowly before standing causing her to cry out. Oscar slid under the bed,  Candice quickly pulled her underwear and sweatpants up, picked up a random book, and pretended to read it. Her grandmother came in with her hands on her hips.

"Now, I know you ain't reading no damn book upside down," she said. Candice mentally face palmed herself and flipped the book over.

"Hey grandma," Candice said embarrassed. Her grandmother looked around skeptically and then turned to head out.

"Alright, goodnight baby,"  she said and then paused, "Oscar...you're gonna need a new hiding spot besides under the bed...and to park your car around the corner instead of in front of the house."
