Candice sat at the library flipping through her biology 101 textbook while looking over her shoulder. She couldn't get over that Cuchillo woman showing up in her room and touching her things. She told Candice that she needed help keeping an eye on Cesar, Monse, Ruby, Jamal. "Your mom is such a nice woman. I had drinks with her the other day. It would be a shame if she were to go missing or your grandmother." Candice could still see Cuchillo's smirk. The situation made her stomach flip. She was so deep in thought she didn't realize someone was tapping her shoulder.
"Excuse me, you're cell phone is distracting me," an older woman said pointing at Candice's phone that vibrated on the table.
"Oh shoot, I'm so sorry," Candice packed up her things and grabbed her phone. Once outside the library and in the blazing heat Candice answered her phone. She knew it wasn't Oscar. After their last link up he stopped answering her calls and stopping by the house.
"Hello?"
"Candice, baby, I need you to stop at the market before you come home. I need some water, eggs, and whipped cream," her grandmother laughed.
"Ok ok got it. I don't need any details!" Candice quickly hung up before her grandma decided to bond over hoe stories.
"I can't wait until I get a new place," Candice muttered to herself. The walk to the market took 10 minutes but it seemed like an hour. Once there, she grabbed a small shopping basket and marched through the aisles. When she got down the dairy aisle she noticed a familiar face. Tip toeing as silently as she could, Candice crept behind a short boy with brunette hair.
"Ruby!" She shouted. Ruby juggled the tub of butter between his hands before it fell to the ground with a thud.
"Jeez Candice," he said picking it up.
"What's got you so jumpy?" Candice pressed. Ruby furrowed his eyebrows.
"M-m-my mom is pressing me to make my famous cake," he said. Candice raised an eyebrow.
"Sure you're right," Candice chuckled, "Where's the gang? I haven't seen everyone in a while."
"Same old same old," Ruby let out a nervous chuckle, "gotta go! See you later!" With that Ruby scurried down the aisle before turning down another. Not odd at all. Candice gathered all of the items her grandma asked for plus a few snacks for the rest of the week.

While she paid for her things in a hurry she didn't factor in that she would have to carry everything home. It was darker outside and Candice groaned starting her trek. I need a car. Immediately an idea for a story popped into her head. She abandoned the ones she wrote in high school and started to write more science fiction. It didn't take long before her mind had drifted off into another realm.

Winston poised the ray gun behind his targets head. It pressed into soft strawberry blonde curls and he heard the woman gasp.
"Thought you could hide from me?" Winston said in one tight breath.
"You thought you could stay away from me?" The woman retorted. Winston removed the gun from the woman's head and she turned on her heels.
"You're hard to stay away from," Winston pulled the woman into a firm kiss softly pulling her in by her waist. She pulled away, her eyes glazed over.
"What are we doing Oscar?"

Like a record scratch Candice was snatched out of her daydream. Why am I thinking about Oscar? She rolled her eyes and turned down her block. Should I tell him about Cuchillo? Candice hugged the bag closer to her chest. In front of the house was a brown Cadillac. A older man in a nice suit slid in smoothly before waving goodbye. Her grandmother stood on the porch with a lazy smile and her wig half off of her head.  Here we go.
"Hey baby!" Her grandma beamed. Candice held in her chuckle.
"Hey grandma," she snorted, "fix your wig, please."
"Oh shoot! I'm out here looking crazy!" Her grandmother scurried in the house and Candice followed behind her.  Candice quickly made dinner (tacos) and ate in the dark on the couch in the living room. Grandma went upstairs to eat so Candice flicked on the TV. She was mid bite into her hard shell taco when she realized someone was standing in the shadows in the corner of the room.
