Twenty | gunshots in the dark

"Let her go, Miles," Steve said from behind us.

Miles turned around, the gun still pressed to my forehead. When he saw Steve, I saw the clear panick in his eyes. He knew there was no way he was getting past Steve.

I used his slight distraction to duck, grabbing the gun just as he pulled the trigger in surprise. Steve took over after that and Pietro pulled me away towards where Wanda was still lying unconscious.

When I looked up from the red haired girl, I saw Miles lying on the ground. There was a cut on his forehead but it was obvious that Steve was taking it easy on him. Miles started to pull himself up and Steve shook his head.

"Miles, just stay down and I won't have to hurt you anymore," Steve said.

But Miles didn't listen. He pulled himself up slowly and Steve lunged towards him again only to hit the ground when Miles teleported. He appeared on the other side of the room where my gun was lying on the ground. Surprisingly, he didn't pick it up. He looked down at it and frowned, a pained look on his face. It was clear that he was trying to fight against what HYDRA had done to him. He had been fighting this whole time. It just got a little hard for him just then.

Steve walked over to where I was standing, a look of confusion on his face. "Is this..." He trailed off but I knew what he was asking.

"Yeah," I nodded.

Miles lifted his head up his eyes scanning the people in the room until they landed on me. "You know I can't control it. Please."

I frowned my brows in confusion before realising what he meant and when I did, I shook my head. "I can't do that."

"If you don't, you might die," he argued.

"I am not going to kill you!"

"Please, Clarke," he said. "I could never live knowing I hurt you."

My finger hovered over the trigger but I refused to pull it. Miles blinked and I relaised that the other Miles was back. The scared look on his face disappeared and was replaced by something that did not belong on his face.

So I did what I didn't think I could do but what Miles wanted. I pulled the trigger and watched as the bullet hit my best friend.

"Mel!" Steve shouted as he ran towards Miles, kneeling down next to him. To my surprise, a blonde woman walked into the room, took one look at Miles and ran off towards him.

I dropped the gun not quiet able to believe what I had done. When I reached Miles, it seemed like Steve was trying to convince the woman to do something. "You can do it, trust me," Steve said.

The woman gulped and pulled off the gloves she wore and slowly lowered trembling hands towards Miles before pressing them to the wound on his stomach. Miles went pale almost immediately and the woman panicked. But a second later, his colour went back to normal, though still slightly pale from the blood loss.

The woman pulled her hands away a while later keeping her eyes away from the blood on her hands and instead on Miles. "He'll be fine now. He just... needs to get that bullet out. Maybe a few stitches."

Miles left as soon as Dr. Cho gave him the all clear only waiting long enough to see me. After apologizing countless times and getting into an argument about who was to be blamed for what had happened - my point being that it was my dad who did all that to him and me who shot him voluntarily - we finally decided to say that we were even. We both had almost killed each other that day.

I tried to get him to see Wanda and he finally caved after a lot of begging from me but I had a feeling their conversation didn't go so well because he walked out with a sad look on his face and Wanda didn't come out of her room for the rest of the day.

After Miles left, I was sitting on the roof of all places because I really needed some fresh air. Of course Pietro found me there and I didn't have the heart to ask him whether he had run through the entire tower looking for me because when he came, he looked really tired.

"You alright?" He asked.

I nodded, keeping my mouth closed because I didn't trust any words that rolled down my tongue at that moment to make any sense. The truth was that I wasn't alright. At least not completely. My best friend had been tortured by HYDRA for who knew how long? I couldn't even start to imagine how he must be feeling. If I was feeling so horrible about that days events, what would he be feeling?

Pietro laid a hand on my shoulder gently and I placed a hand on top of his. "I just... need someone to be here," I mumbled softly.

Pietro sat down next to me and I leaned against him with my head resting on his shoulder. He put his arm around me and pulled some closer, pressing a kiss to my forehead making me smile.

"I'll be here as long as you need me," he said. "You know that, right?"

"I know."

✳✳✳

The first ending I wrote for this chapter was so horrible I couldn't even bother reading it for a second time so I rewrote it and I like this! It's cute. I love writing Clarke and Pietro moments where they aren't being held at gun point. Don't you?

So, official ship name is #clietro. The book is over (epilogue is still left) and I come up with a ship name. How great!

Also, I think I need to explain something. A lot of you thought it would be Wanda standing behind Miles and to be honest, I even considered changing it to her but decided against it. The device that was used to knock out Pietro and Wanda was pretty strong. Pietro only woke up because, well, he's faster at everything than anyone else, meaning he can heal and stuff faster which is why he woke up faster. And I didn't want it to be Wanda anyway because it's a little important for later.

Thank you guys! Please do vote, comment to let me know what you guys think! If you read up to here, you are really patient and haven't gone straight the epilogue. So,I'm asking you now to go read it.
