Chapter 25
'Hi dad.' Will said casually when Mr. Mitchell entered the kitchen. His father dropped his phone on the floor, the carpet breaking it's fall. Will had decided not to call his father, instead he just called the chauffeur. Which was why his dad had no idea Will was home.
Elisa bit her lip. Was he a nice man? Would he like her? Would he be okay with the fact that Michelle and Will let her stay in the guest room until they found her father? His father looked shocked. He didn't seem like a stern man, but appearance was something very misleading. He walked forwards and gave Will a long hug.
'Where were you kid? Why didn't you answer my calls? Did you make lasagna?' He asked, firing questions at Will like it was just as easy to answer questions as to ask them. Elisa chuckled. The last question was completely irrelevant in this situation. The laugh caught Mr. Mitchell's attention, making him stare at her.
'You've got yourself a new... erm... girl?' He asked, not really appreciating Will's reputation with girls. Or at least that's what Elisa could make of it. 'I hope she's your fiancé, because you're turning eightteen in three weeks.' He added. 'Walking away won't mellow me out. Now who is the charming young lady?'
'This is Elisabeth, and no, we're not engaged.'
'Yet.' Michelle added to Will's sentence. Elisa turned crimson and Will spit out his hot chocolate, almost choking.
'Michelle!' He said, slapping her playfully on her head.
'Oh come on, I have seen the way you look at her.' Michelle teased, pinching his cheek. 'You two are adorable together!' She said excitedly. Will turned red now.
'Stop. Freaking. Her. Out.' He hissed between clenched teeth. His father laughed out loud and but his briefcase on the ground. He took of his tie and black blazer, draping them over a chair. He opened the oven and took out the lasagna with the oven mitts. Putting it on the table, he cut it into eight pieces.
Michelle and Elisa had been in the kitchen all afternoon, Michelle had offered to teach her everything about girl things and Elisa had gladly accepted. They had made the lasagna together and Michelle had explained a lot of things; from high school to mobile phones. Michelle was a really sweet girl, definitely friend-material. She did talk a lot, but Elisa didn't mind as she had a lot to catch up on. It was not like Elisa had very much to tell anyway.
Will put down his mug on the counter, taking Michelle's and Elisa's with him. He took a seat, but not before pulling out a chair for Elisa. Michelle sat down with a smile on her face. Will's father was eyeing him suspiciously. Elisa stared at her hands, not understanding what was going on.
'So where have you been and where is the lady from?' Mr. Mitchell asked, looking from Will to Elisa and back to Will again.
'I kind of fell of the ship two months ago. I washed ashore on a desert island. I met Elisa. I went trough hell, though it is not because of Elisa here, and eventually managed to get back to the mainland after nearly dying of hunger. Any questions?' Will asked like he was presenting a project at school. His father dropped his fork and his jaw dropped as well. What was it with him dropping things? First his phone, then his fork and then his jaw. Elisa secretly wondered what would be next.
'Are you serious? Because this is not funny William Mitchell. I almost thought you were speaking the truth.' He said, pointing his fork, which he had picked up after a few seconds of doing nothing but blinking and breathing, at him.
'It is the truth, dad.' He said calmly, not bothering to get frustrated. His father looked at Michelle, who shrugged.
'It's what they told me as well.' She said.
