Chapter 20
After 14 days
Elisa opened her eyes. What was the noise? Her stomach wasn't that loud. She looked around. The sky was dark. But it wasn't it's normal, navy blue. It was grey, almost black. The noise she had heard was thunder, and when the whole sky lit up for a second, she knew it was storming. Again. The dull, grey moon was hidden behind layers of thick, ash-colored clouds. She couldn't see a single star in the sky. The raft was moving up and down on the waves, and Elisa unconsciously pressed herself closer against Will.
'Elisa? What is wrong? Why are we moving up and down?' Will frowned and sat up. He rubbed his eyes with his hands. 'Oh hell no! Not again.' He let out a sigh. 'Okay, Elisa, don't worry. Just knot a rope around your waist and hold on to this pole in the middle.' He said, pointing at the pole of the sail. Elisa nodded and tied a rope around herself, just like Will had said. Will did the same and attached the ropes to the raft. 'Okay Elisa, hold on tight.' He instructed.
It started raining. Or pouring actually. The waves got wilder and wilder, occasionally falling down on the raft. It was raining buckets and buckets of water at a time. She was wet all over and her shirt stuck to her body, it had gotten see-trough in a matter of seconds. Will was also soaked. His trousers clung to his legs and his hair was glued against his forehead. He held on tight to the pole with one hand, the other was holding her from behind. He shielded her from the waves crashing against his back. After they had ran out of food two days ago, they were getting weaker. And the weakest should always be protected.
'Elisa?'
'Yes, Will?' She asked, breathing heavily after a wave was trying to drown her. They were just crashing all over their raft like it wasn't even there.
'Promise me to never let go of that pole until the storm ends?'
'If you won't, I won't.' She said.
'No, promise me to never let go, no matter what I do.'
'Are you going to let go?' Elisa asked, looking shocked and desperate. 'If you do that I'll kill you!' She raised her voice over the wild rumbling of the thunder and the wild sea. Smooth. She thought to herself. How could she possibly kill him when he was already drowning?
'I won't, but promise me you won't try to save me if I'm drowning!' He shouted. She couldn't risk her life for him, he would never forgive himself for that.
'I can't, you saved me, so I would have to save you!'
'Don't be so damn stubborn, Elisa!'
'You are stubborn! Just hold that pole with both your hands and let my waist go!' She yelled back at him. She snatched his hand from her stomach and placed it on the pole. She turned around the pole, facing him.
'Just let me hold you!'
'No! It's too dangerous!' She wrapped her legs around his for stability.
'I can't lose you Elisa!' He screamed.
'And you think I can lose you? You're all I have right now!' She looked angry. Will's face softened but his frown stayed to protect his eyes from the water.
'But I love you.' He said in a friendlier voice. Like that gave him the right to risk his life by holding her.
Elisa was quiet. Did he really just say that? No one had said that to her in a long, long time. She had nearly forgotten the existance of love. She had certainly forgotten the word. She bit her lip, wanting to cry. She was such a pathetic, sad, little child. She suddenly knew why he could look at her with this weird look in his eyes, why every time he touched her it made her feel warm inside and why his kiss had tingled.
'No matter what happens during this storm, or what happens after, I will always love you.' Will said, staring into her seablue eyes with a sad expression.
'I love you too, Will.' Elisa said after a short silence. She was sure. Everything about him made her want to hold him. 'So I can save you.' Will's face lit up.
'You love me?' He asked, blushing all of a sudden. Elisa ignored him. She shuffled forwards, holding him tight. He hugged her back, with the pole in between them.
'Don't let go, Will.' She said, her voice shaking. 'There is a big wave coming our way.' She said, moving away from his shoulder and looking at him.
Will looked to the side. He moved his head to kiss her before it could do damage but the wave was too fast. I crashed against their bodies and yanked them apart. Somewhere in the mix of water and wood he managed to grab Elisa's hand. The ocean pulled Elisa of the raft, but Will wasn't planning on letting her go. The rope, however, snapped.
'Grab my hand with both of yours!' He shouted. She pulled herself up a bit and took his hand with her other hand as well. He pulled, but she couldn't get over the edge of the raft. He felt her hands slip away. 'Don't let go, Elisa!'
'I'm trying!' She screamed. His hands were wet and the raft was slippery. She had not enough power to hold on for much longer. Why hadn't they taken more food?
Will let go of the pole and pulled her up quickly with both of his hands. She clung to the pole and closed her eyes. She was exhausted. Will held her with the pole in between them.
'Are you okay?' He asked.
'Yeah.' She said, panting.
She had to eat. Why hadn't they reached the mainland yet? He saw another wave coming. This was his chance, and it might be his last. It was now or never. He leaned forward and kissed Elisa, and to his surprise, she kissed him back. He nearly suffocated her with his tight grip, but he couldn't lose her. It would break him. She tried to hold him as tight as he held her, but her thin arms had no chance of suffocating him. The water smashed against their heads, and Elisa had to grab his skin to stay in place. His arms were steady around her, she couldn't go anywhere, but she couldn't be sure enough.
Will loved her soft lips and wasn't planning on ever letting go, but Elisa stopped the kiss. She put her head on his shoulder and closed her eyes.
'Why us?' She whispered to no one in special. 'Why does this happen to us?' He stroked her back.
'I don't know, Elisa.' He kissed her forehead. 'I don't know.' He closed his eyes and they waited for the weather to calm down.
He smiled.
He had kissed her. And she had kissed him back.
He loved her. And she loved him back.

Heeeeey :)
Do you like this chapter? I do :D They kissed!
It's not the end however, because they are both weakening and they are nowhere near land. Would be quite cruel to just end the story now, wouldn't it?
