Chapter 2

That girl had some serious problems. Stuck on this island for more than half her life? She looked quite ok. Her hair was neatly brushed, her body clean, she even smelled nice. He thought about her as he struggled to climb over large boulders and dense bushes. She was probably 16 years old. It was such a pity that someone so young and beautiful could have such terrible mental problems. He shouldn’t have challenged her. Probably no one had ever told her about her mental problems, and everyone just acted like they believed her stories. Well, at least she had a lot of fantasy. He stopped. Where was he?

He looked around, turning around his own axis to be able to see every direction. Will scratched his head. So maybe he was a bit lost. If he would just walk ahead in a straight line there would be a beach or city visible after a while. This was not the smartest idea he had ever had. His wound was still healing, and right now it was exposed to millions of what might be foreign or even mutated bacteria. If this really was a desert island, who knows in what way the bacteria had developed? Nevertheless, Elisa appeared quite healthy. Not that he believed her desert-island-story, but we are discussing a "what if?" situation.

After walking for what seemed like another hour or two, he gave up. How far could the civilization be? He let out a deep sigh and sat down with his back against the tree. Maybe Elisa was right.

‘Already giving up?’ He heard a sweet voice say from behind. He turned to see her.

‘You followed me?’

‘No, I wanted to do that as I knew you would get lost, but after watching you walk in circles for 20 minutes I figured I’d better get lunch.’ She said with a casual shrug of her shoulders.

‘I walked in circles for 20 minutes?’ Will asked.

‘Hmm. Let me think. Yeah, yes, that’s what I said, I’m glad you took the time to listen to me this time.’ She handed him a few strawberries.

‘What’s this?’

‘Lunch my dear “darling”,’ She quoted what he had said that morning. ‘I’m not going to let my only companion starve. Or at least not today.’ He smiled.

‘Well that is very nice of you. But I was not going to starve and I was not even lost either. Women and their imaginations...’ Will stood up. Elisa shook her head. He tasted one of the strawberries. 'What is this?' He asked, pointing at the strawberries.

‘Fruit from the island. It's different. Shall I show you around the house?’ Will was in doubt.

‘I am an independent man you know, this is kind of illegal for independent men.’ She laughed.

‘Right. Just like living on an island for nine years is illegal for sophisticated girls. So why don’t you just join me and then I’ll show you around.’ She offered him his hand. He took it, secretly just wanting to touch her soft skin. She walked for maybe two minutes, and they reached the house and the beach again.

She opened the door. ‘Well, this is the hallway.’ They entered a long hall with four entrances to other rooms, two on each side. Everything was made of wood, dried leaves, grass and ropes. She pointed at the first one. ‘This is my bedroom.’ She pointed at the second door. ‘That is the spare bedroom.’ He frowned. Why did she have a spare bedroom? Elisa pointed at the other two rooms. ‘Those are the kitchen and the living room.’

‘How did you build this house?’ She played with a strand of her hair.

‘At first it was smaller and worse build, but when Beau came he helped me to improve the house a bit and…’

‘Who’s Beau?’ Will questioned. Elisa hesitated for a moment.

‘He’s nobody.’

‘How can he be nobody?’ She nonchalantly shrugged.

‘What do you want me to do about it?’ Will copied her nonchalant shrug.

‘You could tell who he is…’ He suggested.

‘I can’t help that he is nobody!’ She nearly shouted at him.

‘Alright, alright. Now tell me what I have to do to help around here.’ He put his arm around her waist. Elisa slapped his arm off of her and told him coldly:

‘Follow me.’
