"So, we just have to get up those stairs before the flame goes out?" Jodie asked, glancing down at the small flame that was in her hand. "Sounds easy, huh?" Marco grinned as he used his powers to place another flame in my hands.

"Time to go through fire," I said half jokingly before we all began our ascent. Although it seemed simple like the other challenges, it required multitasking. Which I was terrible at.
There were two options: walk quickly and get to the top but risk the fire being blown away, or take it slow and steady but letting the fire die out.

At the time, I thought the best thing to do was to go quickly. I dashed up the long flight of stairs, using one hand to cover the fire that floated above the other. I glanced back at the others. Jodie was trying to go fast like me while the twins tried to go slowly up the stairs. The moment I returned my gaze to the flame, it was gone.

"Come ON!" I growled, marching back down to start over. "You know... the instructions said you need to concentrate," Marco said. I snapped my fingers and pointed to my palm. "Fire. Now."

"Right," he rolled his eyes, waving his hand over mine to produce another small flame. "What else am I good for......"

I didn't even pay attention to what he was saying. I immediately dashed back up towards the stairs. Before I had even taken a step, the flame went out. Again. "W-what!?!" I yelled in bewilderment, glaring at Gill who's flame died out. "Are you doing some air tricks with me?!" He simply shrugged.

I groaned.

This sucks, I thought annoyedly.

I went back to Marco to get another flame.

For the thousandth time.

I was growing tired of it. We had been trying to get to the top of the stairs all day, and it was exhausting. Even Gill and Jodie gave up. "Crissie are you sure you don't wanna take a break?" Marco asked, concern spread across his face. I glared darkly at him and stretched out my hand. "Suit yourself," he snapped his fingers and another flame appeared.

"Almost there!" Bill exclaimed. As I looked up I silently gasped, seeing the boy almost at the top. The moment he stretched out his leg to make the final step, he paused and made a loud groan. After marching down the steps he stopped in front of us, his arms hung helplessly at his sides. "I quit."

Then it was just Marco and I.

I took a deep breath, trying not to breathe on the fire and began my ascent once again. This time, I decided to take it slow and steady. You know what they say, I thought. Slow and steady gets you fire powers!

I suddenly gasped, seeing that the fire was gradually getting smaller. "No no no no no no," I desperately cooed, blowing gently to get it bigger again. Once again, it went out. "Ugh!" I groaned. "This is ridiculous. I don't get this STUPID challenge!" I marched back down the stairs and slumped onto the floor, Marco sitting next to me.

"This is stupid."

"I've noticed that about you." "What?" I quickly looked up. "Whenever something doesn't go your way, you say it's stupid. But you can't keep doing that. You have to try again even when things seem stupid, or you don't understand how things work. That's just life. It's hard... I know, but you've come this far. You can't give up now!"

I was honestly taken aback by the heart filled inspirational speech he gave me. "Wow," was all I could say.

"So.... come on!" He jumped up and held out a hand for me. I smiled slightly, brushing his hand away and getting up myself. "Let's go," I held out my hand. He too beamed brightly at me as he created another flame in my hand.

"Just take it easy," I mumbled as I took one step up the stairs. Then another, then one more. Soon, I was gradually getting closer to the top. I never took my eyes off the bright orange flame that flickered in my palm. Just keep walking. Just keep walking. Just keep walking, I reassured myself.

As I glanced up I saw that I was getting closer to the end. "Yes!" I smiled. When I looked back down, my bright and excited expression suddenly fell. Pausing in my tracks, I released a long frustrated sight which turned into a loud moan.

The fire that was in my hand was no longer there. For some reason, I remembered something my mother said. You have the power Crystal.... but you lack patience. I growled under my breath. I hated to admit it but she was right. I wasn't patient. "Try again?" Marco asked.

I glanced at him with a dry expression. "I'm gonna take a chicken break."
