"Let's see what this air challenge is all about," Gill said, rotating his shoulders a few times.
"Everyone ready?" I asked, glancing back at my four friends. They all nodded with determined smiled on their faces before we all went to the door marked 'air'.
As I opened the door and stepped through, I entered a much smaller room with a large platform in the center. "This is it?" I raised an eyebrow. "This is what's supposed to teach us about the wonders of air power?"
Standing before us was the simplest, lamest, most boring challenge I had ever seen. It was a platform with multiple randomly placed banners. "The power of air requires total concentration," Jodie read from the instruction banner. "Get to the other side of the spinning air banners and gain ultimate power."
I glanced back at the obstacle and saw Bill already examining it. As we all jumped down to get a closer look, he punched the air in front of him and blasted a powerful wind towards the challenge. The moment the air came in contact with once banner, it bumped into another. Then another, causing all the banners to spin in different directions.
"This is gonna be EASY!" Jodie grinned, excitedly punching her palm.

"Go to the left!"
Thud!
"No no, the OTHER left!"
While Jodie was attempting to pass the challenge, the others were watching from our spots on the ground, trying to help her out. This is harder than it looks, I thought. Although it looked simple-just get to the other side of the banners-it was MUCH more complicated.
"Argh!! I'm.... trying!" She growled angrily. I watched as she failed miserably to dodge the banners. Every time she dodged one to the left, another spun from the right and smacked her in the face. She was supposed to be moving swiftly and carefully, but all I heard were grunts and loud thuds.
"You can do it sis!" Marco yelled. We all watched in disappointment as she flew out of the machine.
Right where she started.
"This thing is rigged!" She complained, rubbing her head and sulking. "Who's next?" We all simultaneously turned to Marco. "Seriously?" We had to drag him all the way to the starting point before shoving him into the machine. "And..... GO!" A second hadn't even passed and he was already shot back out and bumped into Bill.
"Well... I give up."
I glanced back at the machine. Just remember what Mel taught you, I reassured myself. Clear your mind and listen to your surroundings.
"I'll go," I finally stated, slowly approaching the challenge. As I got closer, the force of the wind was so strong that it blew my pigtails back. "Good luck," Gill muttered. With one final deep breath, I stepped in.

I dodged to the left-bang.
Back to the right-thud.
I even went straight-thump.
I had been in the challenge for hours, trying to get to the other side. With every move I made I would earn a powerful slam in the side by a banner. It was like a maze, the only difference was that this maze moved. As I spotted a banner spinning to my left, I quickly slid to the right-only to get another hit by a spinning banner.
"This is ridiculous!" I yelled angrily. "How is this supposed to give me air powers!?" "Just... stay focused?" Jodie's uncertain voice reached my ear even though the wind from the banners was even louder. I took a deep breath, still bumping into some banners, and closed my eyes.
Just like last time with Mel, I completely cleared my mind. I blocked out the powerful blasts coming from the banners. I didn't hear my heavy panting or even the motivational words my friends threw at me. I just focused on getting to the end.
I moved my arms carefully and soon found that I wasn't getting bumped by the banners anymore. I was light on my feet, making swift turns and quick movements. Afterwards, I didn't feel the wind slamming on my skin. I slowly cracked an eye open, gasping when I saw that I was at the end of the challenge.
I quickly wiped my head around to see the obstacle course, but the banners weren't moving. They were completely still like I hadn't just been through them. I slowly glanced down at my hands. I have air powers already!? I mentally screamed.
"Wha-how!?" Bill stuttered. "Am I seeing right? Or did you just pass through the challenge like you did some.... ballroom dancing!?" Jodie exclaimed, waving her arms around. "I have to test it to make sure," I thought out loud. "So, how are you gonna te-" Gill abruptly stopped his sentence as he was blasted back by a powerful gust of wind and slammed into the wall.
Everyone was silent for a split second, only hearing Gill's silent moans. "Aw sweet! I have air powers!" I jumped into the air. Marco, Jodie and Bill all surrounded me, swarming me with multiple questions and excited statements. No one even noticed that Gill was still trying to recover from that hit I gave him.
"That..... that was really powerful," he winced, holding his side and limping over to us. "I can't believe it! That means the only other elements you have is-" "Fire...." I interrupted the dark-haired girl.
"I have fire next."
There was a long, motivational silence as I entered a pensive mood before Gill roughly slapped my shoulder and barked, "That still hurt ya-know!"
"I know," I smirked.
