fear was an emotion that hadley had become all too familiar with after julia's disappearance, she was afraid of everything. she would jump if she saw her shadow while walking home from work on a tuesday night, become emotional if her sister didn't call to check in while away for the night. everything was scary because she realized how dangerous the world truly was.

she was absolutely terrified as she watched eric suffer on the long table he lay on, the horrible smell of burning flesh floated around the room as the silver melted into his skin with ease. he meant the world to godric, she couldn't just let him suffer like this.

"you see, just as our lord our savior was betrayed for thirty pieces of silver, a few ounces of silver can betray a child of satan to the world!" steve shouted, hadley looked up at him with a confused expression.

"what the hell are you on about?" two of the fellowship guards held onto her arms tightly, it didn't matter though because she wasn't moving. "how can these people listen to you?"

eric groaned quietly on the table before trying to speak to steve newlin, "i offer myself in exchange for godric's freedom. and theirs as well."

"that's noble but they're just as culpable as you are. traitor's to their race, the human race. they hardly deserve mercy. maybe we should tie them to you so you all can meet the sun together. bet they would roast up nicely."

hadley glared at him as he walked down to her, his hand brushed her cheek where a small bruise was forming due to gabe. "you're insane," the girl spat at him.

"insane with power for a pure people."

"so was hitler, and we all saw how that ended." eric tried laughing from his place but ended up groaning loudly, moving his head to the worried woman watching him very impatiently.

just as everything seemed calm bill compton slammed the doors open, screaming for sookie. "one more step, vampire, and the girl dies." steve put a gun to sookie's head, making hadley's breathing become very ragged.

"if you shoot her everyone here will die!" bill shouted, his fangs on display for everyone. hadley's chest began heaving up and down quickly and her vision became blurry, she grabbed onto the guards arms with her now sweaty hands.

the men looked at her suspiciously, like she was trying to get their guard down before attacking. hadley suddenly dropped to her knees and tried feeling at her chest but was stopped by the men, "i-i can't breathe." she sobbed out.

as everyone turned to the woman steve newlin got shot in the hand by a paintball gun, jason stackhouse stood behind a pillar. "let her go fuckwad!" he screamed out before shooting steve between the eyes with the gun, three men jumped on him and bill threw the guards off sookie.

the woman however only ran to hadley's side, eric struggled against the chains to help her but failed. "hadley calm down!" she cried out, not sure how to help her. hadley only took a few deep breaths, hearing eric's cries she stood up and stumbled to him. she yanked the chain off in one swift motion before collapsing next to the platform, her breathing slowly becoming normal again.

eric got up and grabbed steve by the neck, throwing him against the steps. everyone either screamed for him to not kill him or to kill him, before eric had the chance to do anything stan walked through the doors with vampires by his side. "steve newlin, you have pushed us too far. you expect us to sit on our thumbs while you round up your men to come lynch us? we'll kill you first. same way we did your father."

sookie was by hadley's side, helping her up and making sure she was okay before she wrapped an arm around her to keep her steady. "destroy them. all of them." stan growled before allowing his fangs to come out and the group of vampires to grab random humans and hold their necks to their mouths.

"enough!" hadley looked up to see godric, "you came for me, i assume. underling. these people have not harmed me. you see? we can coexist. mr. newlin, i do not wish to create bloodshed where non is called for. help me set an example."

eric made his way towards hadley and quietly asked if she was okay, "if we leave you in peace, will you do the same?" steve only turned to the closest vampire and told them to turn him, saying jesus would protect him. "i am actually older than your jesus. i wish i could have know him, but i missed it." he was by steve in a second, holding him by his collar. "good people, who of you is willing to die for this man's madness? that's what i thought. stand down, everyone. people, go home."

as everyone filed out of the church, hadley and eric walked to godric's side. both of them watched him carefully, "i daresay my faith in humankind is stronger than yours." he dropped steve and walked towards the exit, wrapping an arm gently around hadley's waist.
