Abby's POV
It's my first day being a trainee at the beach, and to say I'm nervous is a understatement. I comb my hair back, looking through the locker-room mirror. Okay, calm the hell down, Abby! I take a breath and walk out of the room, locking the door behind me.
When I get to the tower, it's buzzing. The fact that it's 7 in the morning, well that says it all and I don't have to tell you that it's busy.
"Hi guys!" I say loudly, so you know, I'm not a shy person!
Hoppo sees me and cheers and that alerts the rest of the boys. I just smile and head up towards the deck.
"This is Abby Jenson everyone." Hoppo says. "She's the new trainee!"
I'm going around and greeting everyone two by two, Harrison I've already met, then there's Azza, Harries, Chappo, Bisho, and Kerrbox. I don't see Maxi anywhere but I'm guessing he's off duty... Oh wait, I'm not suppose to be thinking about him! ... Already failed, strike 1.
"Nice to meet you all."
"So do you have much experience on rescuing?" Chappo asks.
"I've been a lifeguard on Bronte for part time during two summers." I smile. "So yeah, lifeguard terms are usual for me."
"In Bondi you're put to the test, let's see how you'll do on your first day." Chappo laughs. "You're with Hutz today, good luck." He pats my shoulder and goes down to the beach with Azza.
I look over to Harrison and he chuckles. "Well, who knew the person I helped with a sting would be working by my side?"
"I don't know?" I shrug. "You tell me.." I grin.
He smiles and checks us in before we head down to the south end, it's going to be a test to my abilities, before today I've been out on the waves with the other recruits who didn't make it onto this season so I'm not in the dark. I've rescued before too, but today was totally different.
This was working on Bondi! Harrison stops the rhino and we lean back and look out to the ocean and people.
"How's the sting then?"
I smile at him for a bit before back to looking at the water. "It's so much better, thanks for asking..."
"No problem."
It's like clock work after that, I watch as Harrison takes the board and jumps into to save someone caught in the currents. I watch with a smile when he gets the woman on his board and are advancing back. They make it to the sand, and I help make sure the woman's alright as Harrison puts the board back on the side of the rhino.
"Thanks again!" She says to us and walks off with her friend.
"And a point to Hutz!" He says.
"Well done, Harrison." I give him a high five.
"Central to Hutz and Abby. A rescue is on the edge of the icebergs, you need to go have a paddle." Hoppo says.
"Copy that." Harrison says.
"Send Abby in, Hutz."
I take off my blue shirt and take the board, quickly paddling to the person stuck in the waves. I kneel forward, taking the arm of a man out of the water and dragging him onto the board.
"You're alright, mate." I pat his arm. "Come on, pull yourself onto the board facing that way and on your stomach."
He does as I ask him to and I paddle us to the shoreline. We get back and I help the man from the board, walking him to the sand.
"Stay between the flags alright? The currents are more dangerous here." I tell him.
"Thank you so much."
"No problem." I smile and he walks off.
"Abby's back." Harrison says on the radio.
"Great job, Abby!" The radio goes off from the others.
First rescue on Bondi, bingo!
