Abby's POV

I arrive to work earlier than my shift starts so I decide to take watch at the tower with Harries to keep me company. 

"What are you doing so early, Abs?" 

"Would it be crazy to say I love working here?" 

He chuckles. "So, today the temp is going to be reaching the 40s." 

I widen my eyes. "The beach will be packed as hell."

"Exactly, no taking eyes off the water." 

"Understood." I say and go to collect my radio from the back. "Is Maxi and Hutz out there doing signs." 

"Yeah." 

"Who am I paired up with?" 

"Kerr is doing north with Hutz, you're going to be with Maxi." He writes something down. "At the south end." 

"Thanks. I'm going to go out with the rhino now, I'm on radio!" I shout from the door.

"See you later, Abs!" Harries waves.

 I get into the rhino, making sure the rescue board is strapped to the side properly before driving out, I pass by Hutz and Maxi. Which are about done setting the last board on the sand on the south side. 

"Hey, you two." I say, stopping to park in good distance to overlook the ocean. "Having a good morning?"

"Welcome back to work." Maxi walks over and waves towards Hutz, he continues the journey back to the tower.  "If you don't mind spending the day with me, we're paired."

"And what a pair we are." I smile.

"Hey, I'm sorry about this week." 

"Sorry for what?"

"I've been invading your space." 

I laugh and shake my head. "Maxi.."

"Yeah?"

"You're not invading space, you're my friend and co-worker. I wouldn't be able to say no to you spending the nights there."

"You like me spending the nights?" He winks.

I grin. "Really, it wasn't a problem. You're welcome over any time your ex makes you go crazy, believe me, I know how that feels.."

"Thank you, Abs.. I'd like to thank you somehow." He says. "Let me take you out for dinner, after work?"

I shrug. "I'd love to."

"Then it's settled, after work."

"After work."

After a mass rescue where I had to get 5 people out of the water from a rough current, I take the offer for a lunch break. We don't get a whole lot of time for them so I usually pack a yogurt or small salad, and I don't each much anyway and it's just 10 ish minutes for my break this time as it's super busy out on the beach. 

"Can I join you?" 

I turn and notice it's Hutz. "Sure." I say.

"Thanks!"

"So we're both allowed on break?" 

"Oh yeah, Kerr and Jake are all over it out there."

I chuckle. "As always."

"So..."

"So...?" 

"I heard about your date with Maxi."

Oh, I wish. "It's not a date, it's a friendly dinner."

He raises a brow. "Abby, it's a date." 

I sigh. "As much as you want it to be one, it's not a date, Harrison." 

"Don't do that, you want it to be one too." 

I scoff. "Right!"

He nods smartly. "I know, you don't need to block it with me. I read you well, even if we've known each other for weeks."

I roll my eyes. "Subject change?" 

"Subject change." He nods.

"When will I meet that girlfriend of yours?" 

"Oh, I know.. what about tomorrow? She's coming by the beach..." 

"Great, I can't wait to meet her."

"I've told her all about you." He smirks. "You'll love her."

"Good things I hope?" 

He laughs. "Only the best from you, Abs."
