Abby's POV
"I'm going to work!" I shout, picking up my usable coffee cup.
"Wait a second.." Maxi lifts up into a sitting position from the couch. "You're not working, you have to take care of yourself!"
I roll my eyes. "Maxi, I'm a week pregnant, it's still too early to take time off work." I laugh and give him a quick, sweet kiss. "I'll be fine."
He raises a brow. "You're sure..? Don't let them work you hard, you're pregnant and not superwoman. That's the point!"
I smile and pick up my keys. "They can work me hard as they wish, including today's tides."
He chuckles. "Damn woman, you'll be the death of me one day."
"You sure you're not over-reacting?" I raise a brow.
"Not one bit." He smirks. "My son agrees with me."
"Or your daughter." I say and open the front door. "I'll call you when I'm done with work and you'll pick me up?"
"Count on it." He smiles.
I get to work 10 minutes later just in time to open the shutters and help drive out the rhinos and put out the signs and boards. Joining me this early is Bisho, Beardy, KC and Mouse, they're the usual bunch to crack some jokes... and Bisho's our best swimmer.
"We heard the great news!" KC shouts from the garage and runs in for a hug, I laugh and hug him back. "Congrats, Abs!"
"Thank you! From who exactly...?" I ask.
"From us." Bisho and the rest come back from setting things out of the beach.
Bisho, Mouse and Beardy hug me in one go and Mouse points to my belly.. "So, you happy? Maxi's happy?"
I shrug. "At first I was scared, but now that I've told Maxi it doesn't all weigh up on my shoulders." I start opening shutters. "Maxi's 'over the moon' about the baby, I don't know how to control him now."
"Yeah, that's Maxi for you." KC says. "I bet he wants you to be sitting and relaxing at home?"
"You got it." I mumble.
After another round of chuckles we get back to opening up the beach, it's 6am and the crowds are already beginning to form on the beach, I get a rhino out and drive to the north side of the beach, I stop the rhino just a few meters from the rock edges and lean forward watching a few people already going in.
"Tower to Abs, radio testing." KC's voice comes over radio.
"All good, KC." I reply.
"How many people are up there?"
"About 10." I say.
"Alright, Me and Beardy are up in the tower at the moment."
"Copy." I put the radio down on the seat next to me and smile.
It's a beautiful morning, well, it's most likely every morning is the same. I love coming to work bright and early while it's still a bit chilly and there's a sense of calm to the beach. I hide my laughter when I see two teen's making a fool of themselves in the water, I was that crazy when I was about their age.
"Hey." I jump and turn to a surfer. "Oh, sorry, didn't mean to scare you!" He laughs.
I laugh. "No problem, can I help you with something?" I ask.
"Just wanted to see how you were, doesn't happen often that you meet a beautiful lifeguard." He smiles.
I almost want to really laugh at this guy, mainly because he's flirting at me and I know I'm taken. "Well, thanks for the compliment." I nod.
"This is forward, want to go out tonight?" He asks.
I wince. "I'm sorry, mate. I'm sure my boyfriend wouldn't like that too much."
He nods. "Right... I never asked if you were taken before, dick move."
I laugh. "It's alright..."
"Well, good day." He says and jogs off.
"Good.. day.." I whisper and bow my head to try to hide the chuckle raising up.
