Abby's POV
As promised, Maxi takes me out to dinner after work, and it's a pub food, my absolute go to. I follow Maxi inside, we go to the back of the small Irish pub and settle down, Maxi looks at me I just shyly smile back.
"This alright?"
"Of course." I say. "I love pub food."
"Great, this might be Irish, but it's the best food in the whole area."
"I don't doubt it."
"Shall we get some drinks then?" He asks.
"Let's go."
We walk the short distance to the bartender whose polishing glasses, he looks up and winks at me. I nod back without the smile, I don't like being treated like that, why is it that every guy I meet thinks I want to get it on with him? ... Well, except for Maxi and the other lifeguards I'm working with.
"What can I get you two?"
"A beer and...?" Maxi turns to me.
"Draft cider, please." I nod.
I take out my purse but as the drinks come round, Maxi swats it away. "I'm paying."
"Oh, no you don't." I plea. "Please, you've been so nice to me and I need to do something, Maxi."
"It's my treat, remember?" He winks and gives the bartender the exact amount cash. "What about we have these drinks and after that order some of the food?"
"Great idea." I smile.
We go back to our places and I take a sip of my cider before smiling back up at Maxi, how can I just... talk? It's getting even more embarrassing that I took Hutz's word on this being a date. But Maxi's 'paying me back' for the times he slept over, and that's that.
"So, your ex left. I take it?" I ask.
He shakes his head. "She's staying over for one more night before she goes to Perth."
I raise a brow. "Why is she even here? I mean ex stays a ex and doesn't sleepover at a old boyfriend's house...?"
He chuckle. "I'd like her to think the same way, but she's a pain as it is, saying 'no' for a short stay is even more reason for her to whine until I give in."
"Was she just passing through?" I ask.
"Hell yeah, she's a traveler." He nods.
"I've wanted to see the world since I was little, it's exciting. She's a lucky girl, to see the world and have you as a ex." I tease.
He laughs and it turns out to make me laugh too, his smiles and laughs are so contagious I love it. Well, and the fact that he makes me feel all fluttery in my stomach whenever he does. We go get the menu from the bar and order some food to continue with while we talk, I lean forward on the table to look at him better.
"Does your boyfriend mind us being out this late?" He clears his throat and leans back to stretch, oh my heart.
"I thought you asked that 'boyfriend' question before? I am currently single." I laugh.
He frowns. "You're too beautiful to be single."
"You're a flirt, aren't you?" I giggle.
He shrugs. "I like what I see, trust me, I'm a lifeguard and lifeguards know beauty when they see it."
I tilt my head. "Is that so?"
I raise a brow, ignoring the feeling of my heart almost running a race in my chest. How can he control my emotions like this? I've had two past boyfriends before this and I've never had this amazing problem before, whatever shall I do?
"Are you flirting with me, Trent Maxwell?" I lean forward and grin up at him, he just smirks down at me..
"That's for you to find out, Abby Jenson." He winks.
I want to continue but when the plates of food comes over to our table, Maxi stuffs his face. I giggle and shake my head at him, taking bites out of my fries and burger... he's right, this is the best place.
... And with him with me, it's even better than I thought.
