Chapter 38: Wake up

" I don't want you and her talking anymore." Anne said crossing her arms.

" It's Bumblebee." I said not even sparing her a glance.

" What ?" She said turning to me.

" When we were leaving the school you called her a wasp. That's not her
nickname and only I'm suppose to call her that."

" I'm sorry did you not hear what I said ? I don't want you and that girl speaking again!" She said raising her voice.

" I heard. I choose not to listen." I said turning up the radio.

" Can you turn down this Chinese bullshit!" She said reaching towards the radio but I quickly stopped her hand.

" It's Korean." I said before pulling over  the car.

" What are you doing ? This isn't my house." She said glaring at me. " look Jace I'm sorry I put my hands on you but I just get so jealous seeing you two together. I promise I won't ever do it again Jace cakes." She said with a wide grin on her face.

I turned towards her and slowly leaned into her. Before our lips could touch I reached behind her and opened it.

" Bye." I said before changing my direction to the road in front of me.

Anne picked up her bags and slammed the door before she stood on the side walk.

" You can't just leave me here !" She said before smirking.

" Call an Uber." I said before driving off.

" Hi Jace nice to see you again." Nurse Agnes said as I entered my dad's hospital room." Oh honey what happened to your face ?" She said coming towards me.

"Got into a stupid fight at school. No big deal. How's he been ?" I said sitting in a chair beside my dad.

" Nothing yet sugar." She said coming behind me and placing her hands on my back. "Don't give up just yet. What book you going to read today ?"

" I'm not reading today. I was thinking of just talking to him..." I said holding his hand.

" I'll leave you to it. Later hun." She said before leaving the room and clothing the door.

" Hey dad.."

Nothing...

" How you doing ..."

Still nothing ...

" Good , good... mom is still drinking.. she hasn't been home in a while but I hear she's staying with the construction guy from the bar. He told me he's taking good care of her and she's gone from two wine bottles a day to just one so that's good ..,"

Yup still nothing ....

" Maybe when you wake up she'll be sober and we can be a happy family again.... we'll keep the sharp objects away from you of course but we will try harder to make you happy this time.., I promise..." I said holding his hand. " You know there's this girl. She's really amazing. I think I might love her ..."

I stood up and I fixed the blanket on his body properly.

" I mean she has a boyfriend." I said laughing to myself. " But that still doesn't stop me from loving her ...I mean I have a girlfriend but she hurts me a lot .. physically."

I got into the bed and I hugged what's left of my dad.

" wake up .." I said in between sobs. " please I need you !" I said not being able to hold it in anymore.

Not realizing how loud I was Nurse Agnes rushed to the door.

" I need him to wake up !! I'll try harder I promise! I need him to wake up !!"

She rushed over to me and she held me in her arms.

" We're still trying Jace. We won't give up. I promise" she said holding me tighter.
