Chapter 44: Timing

I turned around in the bed noticing that it felt a little different. The mattress isn't as soft as it normally was and my blankets felt differently. Without opening my eyes,I tried to feel around for my teddy bear that was normally by my side but he was nowhere to be found.

Turning on my other side I tried to reach for the other side of me but my hand accidentally landed on something hard? I opened my eyes but I was greeted with the worse fucking head ache of my life. The sun from the window was directly in my eyes but I squinted so that I could see what hard thing my hands was on.

" DUDE WHAT THE FUCK!" I yelled.

Jace was standing above me with his eyes wide opened and a glass of water and pills in his hands.

And my hand was on his ... you know..

" Elle c-can you please , umm, r-remove your hand-"

Widening my eyes in horror , I quickly removed my hand and I got off the bed.

" Here take these , and drink this." He said handing me the pills and water. " Don't swallow too hard , I don't want you to get hurt and don't drink too much water that you choke-"

" What are you doing ?" I said looking at him weirdly.

" What do you mean ?"

" You aren't being sarcastic, or saying some sexual joke about me waking up in your bed. What's going on?"

Jace went over to his draw and took out a grey sweatpants and another yellow t-shirt that seems brand new.

" Here shower and put these on."

Jace was about to walk out the room but I quickly stood in front of the door.

" Jace did anything happen last night?" I said while looking directly in his eyes.

Jace's eyes traveled from my eyes to my lips and back to eyes. He kept on opening his mouth like he was about to say something but he quickly changed his mind.

" No , nothing happened. I was just making sure you're okay because your boyfriend would kill me if I didn't."

" Right ... my boyfriend." I stepped out of his way and I made my way to his shower.

Almost everything in there was vanilla scented but, I didn't mind. Jace told me that his mom always stores new underwear in a cabinet in the bathroom and I was truly grateful. Putting on the clothes Jace gave me I made my way down to the kitchen where he was sitting at the counter.

" No waffles this time ?" I asked sitting beside him.

"Mom hates the smell of them. Reminds her of dad"

" Oh she's still here ?"

Ever since I moved here I've never seen Jace's mom once. He always said she was at some guys house or at the bar.

" Well yeah Elle ... she does live here ..."

" Wait, I'm sorry I didn't - that came out  wrong."

Jace laughed and he subconsciously placed his hands on my thigh.

" It's ok bumblebee. I'm just as surprised as you are."

Felling Jace's hands on my thigh had me some type of way. I wanted this feeling forever. I wanted him forever. But, I can't. He was happy with Anne and I couldn't get in the way with something that made him so happy. It would kill me.

But me not having him is killing me more...

Jace and I stared at each other before he realized where his hand was. He removed his hand along with the smile that was on his face.

" You should probably get home before my mom wakes up. She hates me having girls over. Plus,wouldn't want Shawn to catch you over here again."

Knock knock

" Bestfriend!!!!" Shawn yelled from the porch.

Jace rolled his eyes and we both walked to the door.

" Jace ! Oh , Hey Elle" Shawn said smiling.

Jace looked at him weirdly and I signaled to Shawn that he should be jealous. Jacob ran up behind Shawn and placed his hands around his shoulder.

" I mean Elle ! What in the world are you doing here !" Shawn said attempting to be jealous.

Making sure that Jace didn't see,I pointed my finger up signaling that he should raise the jealousy level a lot more.

" Oh my gosh ! I can not believe this!" He said turning to Jacob begging him to play along.

" Wow whatever shall we do." Jacob said in the blandest tone yet.

I mentally faced palmed myself praying that Jace believed this.

Jace stepped closer to Shawn and looked carefully at his neck.

" Is that a hickey?" He said raising his eyebrows.

" No !" Shawn and I said in unison.

" It's a mosquito bite..."

" That's a big bite" Jace said looking concerned.

" Yup the mosquito just couldn't help himself - I mean itself" Shawn said awkwardly.

" In the mosquitoes defense , probably if you weren't teasing it so much maybe that wouldn't have happened." Jacob said to Shawn.

" Well the mosquito should know that I like to play with my food first and that it's just really impatient and needy and-"

" Okay !! Bye Jace ! I'll text you later !" I said pulling Jacob and Shawn across the street by their ears.

I pulled them to the couch making sure to close the door behind me.

" Are you kidding me !" I said crossing my hands at the two. " That was the worse acting I've ever seen! Jacob you didn't even try!"

" Hey at least I participated. That in itself is a lot of energy." He said while putting his hair in a bun.

" Shawn seriously ! Mosquito bite !" I said while rolling my eyes.

" I thought it was pretty clever." He said folding his arms.

" Oh you think talking about you guys having sex was clever too ?"

" ........... to be fair it was really good"

Jacob leaned over and kissed his lips. I rolled my eyes and stormed off the kitchen where Mia was sitting at the counter.

" Oh you're back." I said while awkwardly playing with my sweater. " Did you hear any of you know ... that."

Mia crunches on cereal and nodded her head.

"Oh"

" Don't worry you're secrets safe with me." She winked before she placed her bowl in the sink.

" we haven't texted in a long time... I'm glad your okay."

" phone broke."

" Oh.."

" Sounds like you have it all figured out though." She said walking over to me.

" Yeah I might be in love with Jace.."

" love ?" She said stopping in her tracks

" Well I don't know yet. I think so though. I mean it feels like when I loved you ...but you know better.."

" Better huh... you'll figure it out
. You always do"

" You're not mad that I've moved on?" I said looking at her.

" Kinda stings. I mean we were together for years... but it's okay. Timing is a beautiful thing Elle. Go be happy while you can."

Mia took up her keys and walked out the door. I didn't bother to question it but I just knew that she was right.

I need to tell Jace. I need to tell Jace fast.
