Poor Valjean doesn't even get to walk Cosette down the aisle because his arm is in a sling. Mr. Gille gets to and that makes me very frustrated.
So Cosette and Marius get married yay! Just don't think about none of Marius' friends getting to see him get married...!
Everyone goes (who? Who is this everyone? All of Marius' friends are dead and Cosette has lived secluded her entire life. Who is showing up to this wedding?) to Mr. Gille house afterwards for the reception (is that what they called it? Idk).
Both Marius and Cosette look resplendent because you know they were just married and they are young and yay they are very happy (I am actually very happy for them no matter how sarcastic this sounds).
Theodule is actually there (remember him? Marius' cousin?) but Cosette doesn't even recognize him anymore. He also doesn't recognize Cosette because he was "accustomed to being thought handsome by the women." So Cosette was just another one of the many women who noticed him apparently. *eye roll*
All the guests are going to have dinner so they sit down. Valjean is supposed to be sitting next to Cosette, but he has vanished. Apparently his hand was hurting him so he decided to retire (um THIS IS COSETTE'S WEDDING WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU NEED TO RETIRE). Instead Marius takes his place and Cosette is still happy.
Wait...why wasn't he already sitting next to her? Is that a thing for weddings in France in this time period? What?
Then Mr. Gille says a 3-page long speech about love and getting married and youth and that typical stuff. He's basically just telling them to be happy. Which is what all wedding speeches say.
