When The Ex Meets

4. That New Face

Another day.
Another pile of paperworks staring back at me.
And here I'm at my cabin sulking with my Life, like any other day.
I don't feel like working, especially today, but asking for a leave within the first week of the job isn't something that my boss will appreciate much.

"Miss Assistant manager, News Director has called you." And here we go again.....

I dragged my feet towards his office.
It will be really nice if the earth just open up and swallow me right now!

As I entered in his cozy cabin, he flashed me a friendly smile, "Oh come in, Sneha. Take a seat." He offered.

And I sat down in front of him. "Yes, sir? You called me?"
What is it this time? Maybe he want me to jump off from this window so he can make a news out of it!! But no, sir, not happening!!??!

"Of course I called you. There's a good news for you." He said, still looking at his laptop, while typing something on it. Am I hearing things now??

He finally looked at me, as he crossed his hands on his table, "I know very well that it has been a long week for you. You just joined our News House and you are already working 12 hours a day, plus those extra shifts."
Sympathy was clear in his eyes, but in mine...... there was a complete confusion!
What on earth is even going on? Is my boss really feeling bad for making me work till long shifts?! No man, it can't be true!!

"So, we finally appointed a personal manager for Ryan." He announced. "You don't have to work with him now for extra hours."
It was supposed to make me feel happy, right?
No more extra shifts and most importantly... no more working with Ryan! Then, tell me why I'm not feeling much optimistic about this whole thing?

I put on my best smile on my face, or at least that's what I tried to!

"Sneha, as a senior here, I'll like you to guide her with all the schedules and duties. And also, give her Ryan's schedule so she can manage it from now on." he was still looking at me for my response, but I didn't even know how to react to this!

'Her'? They got him a female Manager, huh?
But why do I care?!

"Okay sir, I'll detail her with all the things." I nod.

"Great. Let me call her here then. Just wait a moment." He made a call and after 2 minutes or so, a girl in her late twenties entered the room. She was wearing formal black trousers, complimenting them with a white shirt and a black blazer. What is she? Some model from corporate website advertisements?!
As soon as she stepped inside, her perfume filled the air. Did she had poured the whole damn bottle of perfume before coming here?!?
I swear, Although I was judging her but it has nothing to do with the fact that now she is gonna stay with Ryan for all the time!

"Good morning, sir." She chirped.
What's wrong with her voice now? Is she some kindergarten student??

"Morning." He wished her back, "Avni, this is our Assistant Manager of FCC News- Sneha. She will detail you further about your work." He introduced me.

"Its pleasure to meet you, ma'am." She is one enthusiastic child, isn't she?

"Nice to meet you too." I smiled back at her. Since when did smiling became such a hard work for me?!?

"Okay, Sneha, you take her around the News House then." He said, signalling us to leave, as his eyes shift back towards his laptop screen.

I gave him one final assurance nod and moved out of his cabin, with Avni closely following me.

Half of my day just went off explaining Avni which floor has shooting studios in it, which floor has rest rooms and cafeteria, and where exactly are the offices!

Apart from my first impression, Avni was a nice happy-go-lucky girl, its just that she was a little too slow in learning and remembering things.
But overall she was a friendly person to hang out with.

Avni finally got hold of the things, including Ryan's schedule.
I made sure to introduce her with Our Senior News Host aka the person whom she actually have to work with.
After which I left her on her own resources, 'cause I got a bad headache witnessing all these!

I was unable to decide why I was even acting like this? It was not like Ryan is my boyfriend or anything, that I'm getting possessive over him!!
Its not even like Avni and Ryan gonna date in the nearby future!! And even if they do, what does it has to do with me!!!??
We already broke up! And I already made it Crystal clear to him that I don't want him near me, right!?
So its good, now that he has got his own personal manager.
But why am I feeling so insecure??!!

My headache just gotten worse.
