< 💣 B POV 💣 >
On Saturday evening I stood waiting at my front door at six ready for my date. I was dressed casually in a black skirt and blue singlet. I had my black converse on and my hair was out. Surprisingly, this was actually my first ever date. I had never felt the need to date a guy and no guys had ever taken interest in me. Most people stayed away from me and I was generally left as a loner.
Now, in Evergreen, people actually wanted to be friends with me and I was classed as 'hot' and sorta 'popular'. It was a strange transformation and the only reason it happened was because I want revenge on Jackson Collins for rejecting Grace.
I checked the time on my phone while I was waiting. Ollie was going to pick me up at 6 and it was five past now. The bastard better not be making me wait! I didn't even like him yet I was going on a date with him, wow, I'm stooping low. It's all for revenge, I reassured myself that I was doing the right thing. I was sacrificing my wolf for my sister but my wolf would recover.
Because me and Grace are twins, we share mates. That means that if Grace has a mate and a second chance mate and I do too, we have 4 mates. So if neither of us mates with Jackson, we will still have 3 mates so it's no biggie. Well, that's what I have to tell Emmy so she doesn't take over me and try and mate with Jackson. She keeps saying that I should stop pretending and face reality but there isn't any reality to face!
By the time it was 10 past I was worried, not for Ollie's safety but for my revenge plan. At quarter past I called Ollie and he didn't pick up. That kinda got me worried but it still could have been that he didn't want to go out with me and didn't want to talk. I went inside after that and ate some chocolate biscuits. At half past I decided there was no point and I went outside to Glossy.
If you don't have a dog then you wouldn't possibly know how nice they are as pillows. Glossy is big and kinda fluffy so she is super comfy to lie on. She licked my face and I smiled. I knew it was irrational to feel sad but Ollie was cute and he had just jilted me. Any girl would be sad after that.
And there I was thinking things had changed. I was obviously delusional. Even if I am mildly pretty now, a boy still managed to reject me. Most boys have always been, and still are, mean. Some actually care about anyone but themselves but I have been hurt by a lot of boys that it's a wonder I even trust them.
My thoughts went to Chris. He wasn't bad was he? No he wasn't but he still possessed the ability to hurt me.
I had practically dedicated my whole later life making sure I wasn't going to be double crossed, back stabbed, ripped off or hurt in anyway yet Jack comes along and ruins that!
So there I sat, having a pity party with my dog, outside at 7 at night. My life sucked! So I called the girls. And my magical best friends came to the rescue straight away. Well, sorta. Unfortunately, Ash had plans with Tom and Abbey was sick, so it was just the two of us; Lora and Me.
When I opened the door Lora barged in and immediately asked how I was. "Fine" was my one word reply. From that she somehow deducted that I was anything but fine. Which was true... The funny thing is that I am generally a good lier. When I younger I uses to be able to think of the best lies but I never said them. Now I realise that to detach yourself from emotion and everyone of the male and most of the female species, you have to lie an awful lot. And that resulted in me getting very good at lying. However, sometimes when I want someone to see through my lie, I subconsciously make it crap. Now was one of those times.
Lora invited herself in and made herself at home on the couch. "Cordial?" I asked. "You're stalling" was her reply. "What?" I asked even though I knew exactly what she meant. I do that a lot; pretending not to know stuff and second guessing my knowing of stuff. "You invited me over to have some 'girl time' and then you busy yourself in the kitchen. To me that says that you actually want company and to talk about about something, but you kind of don't, and the aforementioned something is bothering you and you don't know what to do." Lora kinda described my situation. "You're surprisingly perceptive" Was my genius reply. "Stalling again" she said. "I know" I sighed. Here goes nothing.
And that is how, my friends, I ended up blurting out my life story to Lora Cooke on a humble not-quite-summer's Saturday night. I told her everything, leaving out hardly any details.
I told her of my younger life, which was very boring and involved moving country twice, my schooling, primary and high school and my friends. I told her that my parents died, this time I did not give the gory details because they were rather emotionally scarring, and how we made the agreement with the boarding school because Chris was only legally allowed to look after one younger child. I told her about my life at boarding school and how I was teased and bullied and couldn't do a fucking thing because I couldn't expose my werewolf-ness. The only thing I didn't tell Lora about was Charlie; she was my secret and I didn't want anyone to hurt her, the poor thing.
By the end of my tragic story I was full on bawling my eyes out. I didn't know how my life had gone so off course. Lora had been such a great listener and hadn't made any sarcastic comments like everyone does during my long rant-story things. Right now I just needed someone's shoulder to cry on and a helping hand to get me back on my feet. I had been juggling my life for so long that eventually I was going to crack.
When I looked at my watch again it was 8:30. I was wondering where Chris was before I realised that he went to a friends house for some guy thing or god knows what.
After getting up and forcing me to have a massive glass of water, Lora suggested we go for a run. "Human or wolf?" I asked. "Wolf" she said like it was the most obvious thing in the world. I looked away and mumbled "Emmy can't run cause of Jack" but it was so quiet that it sounded more like 'And me, Karen, cousin Jack" which clearly made no sense to Lora. Just saying that out loud was a big blow to my pride. I tried to admit no weakness or vulnerability and I just told someone that my wolf couldn't run because a guy rejected us.
I clears my throat and tried again. "My wolf can't run" I said, matter-of-factly. "Why ever not?" Lora questioned. "She's... She's too weak from rejection" I said with a sigh. "Oh" Lora exclaimed with a sigh too. "Let's go in human form instead!" I smiled, glad to know that something like that couldn't get Lora down, the happy and positive person she was. She was the exact thing I needed around; positivity, happiness and friendship all rolled into one girl-sized bundle. I mumbled my agreement and we set off into the forest.
>-<
I screamed. It all happened so fast. One second I was running alongside Lora, on a land bridge across a small chasm, the next, my side of the rock broke away and I fell 15 meters into the gorge. It was by pure luck that I was wedged in between the two walls in a thinner part of the crack and that I was a werewolf so I could heal the injuries flight and Impact had given me. But I couldn't hold myself here for long.
Unluckily, I was in a position in which, if I moved up, I couldn't reach and would fall and die, and if I moved down, I would lose my bridge position and fall and die. If I really felt like it I could go down by making my body diagonal but I wanted to go UP.
I remembered something I had once learnt - humans were square. this meant that my arm span was basically the same length as my standing height. And if my legs were longer than my arms, which of course they were, my leg span, aka. splits, could probably reach the same length as me with my arms above my head. Well, that was the kinda theory. I knew that my legs were sorta shorter and other stuff.
Slowly I wiggled into a position where my right leg was free. I then swung it up towards my head and leaned in towards the rock face at the same time. My foot connected with rock and I carefully trailed my hands up the wall. I was now standing with my feet on either side of the drop in splits.
Next, I transferred my direction into left splits, because that wall had better handholds. Finally, I put my hands back on the wall, wrapping my left hand around a branch of a tree which was sticking out of the cliff, and let my right leg go. I got a good foot hold and managed to climb until I eventually got to a ledge where I flopped down in exhaustion.
During my great non-dying, Lora called the pack and told them of my predicament. By now it was 9 at night and pitch black which was hard to see in, even for our wolfy selves. We concluded that my rescue mission would be in the morning.
Out on that ledge in the middle of the forest it was really cold. I was only wearing a singlet (tank top, vest, etc.) and bike pants and the gorge acted like a fucking wind tunnel.
Lora sat by the edge of the cliff, texting me and talking to others on the phone. I could faintly hear her words on the breeze, "...ropes? no!!! what do you mean no!?! ugh she can't be stuck for that..." "...that's insane, you need a trip to the fucking institution because..."
It began to pour down with rain and Lora took cover under a rock formation. I shark back into the rock face and curled up into a human ball.
I shivered. Once, twice and then I was like a massage machine. I heard Lora scream something about a coat and a shelf. I tuned my ears to her voice and then I heard clearly "Your wolf self has a fur coat". Lora was suggesting I turn into Emmy so I don't freeze.
By 9:30 I was so cold that I took Lora's advise and changed. My bones cracked and hurt more than usual. When I was in full wolf form everything ached but especially my chest. I had no idea how much pain Emmy was in. My vision was blurry and my head felt like it was filled with fog and fucking marbles rolling around.
As I let the extreme fatigue from just being in this form seep into my veins, I noticed I was definitely warmer and more water proof, and I hoped valiantly I wouldn't roll off the ledge and die.
