He was with Jessica, my best friend. Jessica and I have been best friends for years. She always knows what to say when I am upset and when I need her. But right now I am just confused. Jessica hated Ash. She always told me he was trash and I deserve better. But here they are next to each other calling me.
"Hey, guys! What are you doing?" I ask trying to hide how confused I am that they are together.
"Well it's your birthday and we wanted to wish you a happy birthday together!" Jessica says.
"Awe thank you but why together?" I question not holding my curiosity back anymore.
"Well I didn't know your address to get you anything so I thought this might be a nice gift," Ash replies.
"Oh yeah, that makes sense. Thank you! That is very thoughtful! It is so good to hear from both of you! Especially you Jess. I haven't heard from you in weeks!"
"I know I haven't known when to call because you have class," Jess sighs.
"Well, we can fix this! We can plan days to talk! I miss my best friend, and we have so much to talk about!"
"Let's plan this for sure!"
"Umm guys, I'm still here," Ash says clearing his throat.
"We know you're here. We're just choose to ignore you," I say laughing.
"Awe don't be that way babe. You know you love me," He replies smirking.
"You sound so cocky," I say back. "I was the one that broke up with you."
"Yeah that is true, but I can see it in your eyes."
"It true, Xori. You do have that look in your eyes," Jess says siding with Ash.
"I had to say what I had to. You needed to let me go and you weren't going to do that unless I said that to you."
"So you do love me?" he whispers.
"I can't just turn those feelings off," I sigh. I hate that I have to do this on my birthday! Of all days he had to bring this up! This is my day and here he is making it all about him. Now I'm pissed. "You know this is not what I want to talk about on my birthday. Anyway, I have to go anyway I have plans."
"What are you doing?" Jess asks.
"I am going to dinner then I am going to a beach party."
"With who?!" Ash exclaims.
"My friends."
"Which ones?"
"Why does that matter?"
"It doesn't I'm just curious."
"Ember, Nick, and Ember's friend Jason."
"You're going to a party with Nick?"
"Yes, it is my birthday and he is my friend," I reply.
"I don't like it," he grumbles.
"Well, first of all, we aren't dating anymore so you don't have a say. Second of all, even if we were you wouldn't have a say. The point is that you don't seem to trust me. Never have. I have never given you a reason not to. But here you are jumping to conclusions."
"It's not you-"
"You sound so cliche right now," I say cutting him off. "It's not you I don't trust, it's him," I say trying to mimic him. "But seriously, this is so hard on me. I love you and you couldn't seem to trust me even when we were dating."
"I'm sorry! I'll make it up to you. I have another song for you to listen to, Hard to Love by Lee Brice."
"I'll listen later, I have to go! Bye Ash. Love you, Jess!" I say hanging up the phone. Once I hang up I have to change and get ready for dinner and the party. I pack a bag for the beach and change into the new outfit I bought. It is a white dress with an open back and the bottom has red, blue, and purple flowers. I made sure that my hair and makeup is okay. Once I was done I walk out of my room and walk to meet up with everyone. As I'm walking over to my friends I get a text.
